Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's telephone conversation with Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira

On October 15, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil Mauro Vieira, at the initiative of the Brazilian side.
They discussed the work of the UN Security Council, in which Brazil took over the presidency in October. The ministers exchanged views on the current situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and possible further steps towards de-escalation. They emphasised the urgent need to ensure the safety of the civilian population and prevent the crisis from spreading to other countries in the region.
The Russian side noted the imperative of returning to the search for mutually acceptable solutions through the universally recognised international legal framework of the Middle East peace process, with the ultimate goal of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and coexisting in peace and security with Israel.
The ministers also discussed topical aspects of cooperation in a bilateral format and reviewed the schedule of forthcoming Russian-Brazilian contacts at various levels.
