Iran's Solid Motor Program Apparently Suffers a Production Setback
Based on information coming from the Iranian, Press TV and Fars News Agency over the weekend late on the evening of December 27 th, 2008 apparently Iran’s Solid Motor explosives production plant suffered an explosion in an explosives curing storage warehouse. The two separated parameter fenced facilities are believed to be where Iran produces the solid motor for its tactical ballistic missile and its medium range Ghadr-101, 110, and 110A ballistic missile also called, Samen, Sejjil, and Ashura. The explosion at one of the two infrastructures solid motor development production centers are located 7 and 11 kilometers southwest of the Iranian city of Zarrin Shara in the Isfahan province in central Iran. At least eight production line personnel were the fatalities recovered from the site of the explosion as acknowledged by the facilities manager Majid Nasser. Efforts are being carried out to understand what precipitated the fatal production plant explosion. The entire region around the facility including the city of Zarrin Shahr was jolted by the high energy explosion from the explosives plant infrastructure. How extensive the damage is to the facilities infrastructure is unknown at this time because of the lack of current imagery. How extensive this will impact the facilities associated programs is equally unknown. These facilities were first identified by Tim Brown of Talent-keyhole.com formerly of Globalsecurity.org.
One of the two obvious rectangles of these isolated facilities is the region where the damaging explosion is believed to have occurred. The facilities are among a large number of military industrial and nuclear fuel production facilities located in the Isfahan province. The infrastructure features isolated special railroad access as well as production and curing and storage facilities in addition to helicopter landing pads and administrative buildings with near by skid strip and power access support Zarrin is one of several towns in the region that provides housing and other military civil personnel support for the region.
