Description (U):
(U) Radiant OAK II is intended to demonstrate the feasibility of providing real-time information (national systems data) to the cockpit of tactical aircraft. Radiant OAK I successfully demonstrated the feasibility of RTIC by providing national sensor ELINT data to tactical aircraft in near-real-time via the TRAP/TADIXS-B broadcasts. These demonstrations resulted in a decision to equip selected Navy and Marine Corps EA-6B aircraft with the MATT to receive off-board ELINT data.
(U) Radiant OAK II extends the RTIC concepts to include imagery and imagery-related data. Demonstrations of this capability may be done in conjunction with Air Force TENCAP (Project Strike II), NAVAIRSYSCOM (Airborne Tactical Information Management System (ATIMS) Program Office) and the NRO. Imagery RTIC is challenging due to the low-data rates of most line-of-sight (LOS) communications systems on tactical aircraft.
(U) Using Radiant TIN software, Radiant OAK II will transmit compressed target and navigation imagery files and graphic annotations to tactical platforms via TDDS or Link-16. Link-16 using a Time Division Multiple Access architecture, permits real-time information exchanges between platforms, including data and voice.
(U) ATIMS is an initiative to integrate avionics functions into a common backplane to facilitate on-board data correlation and information display to the aircrew. Adding a TDDS receiver into ATIMS would allow receipt of ELINT and imagery data which could be displayed directly on aircraft tactical displays.User Impact (U):
