50th Operations Support Squadron - Weapons & Tactics Flight

The Weapons and Tactics Flight, 50th Operations Support Squadron, is responsible for squadron, wing, and headquarters interface on operational issues. As of August 2001, the flight is organized into three sections:

  • The Weapon System Requirements section is the lead for program management of each weapon system in the operations group to include but not limited to: Air Force Satellite Control Network, Defense Support Program, Advanced Composition Experiment, Midcourse Space Experiment, Global Positioning System, NATO III/IV, Skynet, Defense Satellite Communications System, Wide-Band Gapfiller Satellite, Advanced Extremely High Frequency, Milstar, Inertial Upper Stage, and boosters as well as NASA and NOAA programs.
  • The Ground System Requirements section is the lead for program management providing technical assessment of near-term and long range requirements for ground systems including AFSCN integration of new satellite and ground control programs into current operations.
  • The Wing Weapons Shop maintains liaison with all 50th SW units and provides support for the following: unit combat capability, tactics development and execution, and mission effectiveness.

Prior to that, as of June 1, 2001, the flight had been organized into the following sections:

  • The Weapon System Requirements Section (OSKW) oversaw the operational requirements of and acts as a staffing agency for DoD and allied satellite programs flown by the 50 OG. The OSKW acted as a liaison with the UK and NATO for the NATO/SKYNET program and supported NASA and booster missions. The OSKW also briefed Wing Standup and provided personnel to support the wing's battle staff.
  • The Ground System Requirements Section (OSKG) planned, managed, and integrated new ground systems for the 50th OG. The OSKG also provided personnel to support the wing's battle staff.
  • The Tactics and Employment Section (OSKT) provided the 50th Space Wing a focal point for tactics training and development, AEF deployment, and exercise support. The OSKT also provided the satellite operations crews a Pre-Mission Brief.
