Vinnitsja / Vinnutsya
The city of Vinnitsja is called the pearl of the Podolje region. Situated on the legendary banks of the Southern Bug river, it renders the unforgettable impression by the organic combination of the town civilization legacy and the picturesque beauty of nature. Today the city is more than 600 years old. Its glorious history comprises the times of prosperity and misery. Hard years of the mongolian and tatar yoke were followed by the rule of Lithuania, Poland, the turkish and tatar invasions, imperial power.
The modern Vinnitsja is an important industrial, economical and cultural center of the independent state of Ukraine. Respect, thorough treatment of the past and revival of the national traditions became the most typical features of the recent years. Today in Vinnitsja, all the temples, built in the ancient times, are acting. They are: Angel Saint Virgin-Marija temple, Transfiguration cathedral and others. Construction of new temples of different religional cofessions are in progress. City museums are visited by a lot off people, near M.I.Pirogov country-estate a unique Saint-Mykolai church is situated, where the embalmed body of the worldknown surgeon is placed.
Regional museum of local lore, history and economy and the artistic galery are real treasures, which include the master-pieces of painting, graphic, sculpture items of decorative art, polish palaces, artistic ralues collections, archeological and ethnografical findinqs. Theatral life of the city is flourishing. M.Sadovskyi theatre of drama and music, the puppet theatre, regional philharmonic society can be visited by the citirens and the quests of the city. New buildings of the modern design deconate the city and make it equal to the european city.
