UPDF Artillery Brigade
The mission is to provide fire support with high level of accuracy to all UPDF formations in protecting the territorial sovereignty of Uganda, regional and international security obligations as may be required. Location of Division Headquarter is Masindi, Uganda.
In 1960’s, the Kings African Rifles (KAR) used Light Mortars as their support weapons and in the 1970’s, Uganda Army (UA) upgraded from light mortars to towed field guns with improved range. Between 1979 to 1985, the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) acquired Medium Artillery and short range multiple rocket launchers (towed).
However, from 1986 to date Uganda’s artillery, has experienced rapid advancement to long range Artillery (both towed, mounted and self propelled) and Medium and long range multiple rocket launchers which are also self- propelled.
Growth in weaponry from the Light mortars of 1960s and the 1985’s Medium Artillery and short range multiple rocket launchers to thecurrent long range Artillery (both towed, mounted and self propelled) and Medium and long range multiple rocket launchers which are also self- propelled.
Building of a standard well trained officer and men core capable of adequately contributing to the fulfillment of the Uganda Artillery Mission and supporting regional campaigns. Participation in regional peace missions including AMISOM, and task force operations in South Sudan. Provision of fire support in the defeat of 27 rebel groups in Uganda since 1986.
