HTMS Pharuehatsabodi

On Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Unithai Shipyard and Engineering Limited and a joint venture company, Schelde Naval Shipbuilding held the delivery ceremony of H.T.M.S. Pharuehatsabodi, a 66-meter multi-purpose vessel for hydrographic survey, mine countermeasures and training activities. The event was presided by the Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Satirapan Keyanon at the Laem Tien Terminal, Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi Province.

Unithai Shipyard and Schelde were awarded the contract from Royal Thai Navy on December 22, 2005 and formally laid the keel to begin construction on August 25, 2006. The vessel was designed by Schelde and constructed at the Unithai shipyard, using a partial-material package supplied by Schelde. Based on a special design, this vessel has been equipped with the latest hydrographic and oceanographic survey instruments to optimise its capabilities.

On 25 August 2006 Unithai Shipyard and Engineering and a joint venture company, Schelde Naval Shipbuilding of the Netherlands, are today holding the keel-laying ready to begin construction on a 66-meter multi-purpose vessel for the Royal Thai Navy’s hydrographic survey, mine countermeasures and training activities. The Commander in Chief of the Navy, Admiral Satirapan Keyanon, will preside at the event at the Unithai Shipyard in Laem Chabang, Chonburi.

This vessel is the first of its kind to be built in Thailand. Unithai Shipyard and Schelde were awarded the contract 22 December 2005. Under the joint venture, the vessel was designed by Schelde and constructed at the Unithai shipyard. Based on a special design, it will be equipped with the latest hydrographic and oceanographic survey instruments to optimise its capabilities. The vessel will be completed and delivered by 2007.

The H.T.M.S. Pharuehatsabodi - the first vessel of its kind to be built in Thailand - was given its name by His Majesty the King on December 18, 2006.

On Thursday, February 14, 2008, a launching ceremony was held at the Unithai Shipyard. The Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Satirapan Keyanon, and Khun Pornpen Keyanon, his wife, were presided at the ceremony and Khun Pornpen personally preceded the launch of this vessel.

Schelde Naval Shipbuilding, a member of the Damen Shipyards Group, Schelde's main activity is naval shipbuilding. The Group owns and operates more than 30 shipyards and related companies around the world, undertaking ship newbuilding projects as well as maintenance and repairs, covering a wide range of products, design and engineering.

Unithai Shipyard and Engineering owns and operates the largest shipyard in Thailand. Its core activities are ship repair, conversion and new building, as well as offshore fabrication. The company carries out repairs on an average of 120 vessels a year, and is capable of building five new ships at a time. It was manufacturing three offshore support vessels and nine jack-up drilling rig structures.
