Type 41 81 mm mortar

The Type 41 81 mm mortar is a mortar developed by the Joint Logistics Factory 61 of the Republic of China (later reorganized into Factory 202) from the Type 31 60 mm mortar . In 1953 ( the 42nd year of the Republic of China ), the United States commissioned the 61st Ordnance Factory to produce a batch of 81mm mortars . The 61st Ordnance Factory had no previous experience in developing or producing this type of artillery, and developed the 41st Type 81mm mortar based on the 31st Type. Mortar. All patterns of Type 41 are produced by 61 Arsenal.

The Type 44 81mm mortar is a copy of the M1 81mm mortar . The structure of the artillery is composed of the barrel and base plate of the M1 and the gun mount of the M2. The bottom plate of the M1 is particularly square in shape, with three tandem gun tail slots, making it easy to distinguish it from other mortars. The Type 41 that later served in the Chinese army should actually be the Type 44.

The appearance of Type 41 and Type 44 are similar in some aspects, but it is unknown whether the two are directly related. However, the tripods and base plates of Type 41 and Type 44 are different. Although Type 41 also has a square base plate, it has only one breech slot, so it is not easy to mistake it when placed together with Type 44. A total of two batches of the above-mentioned US aid were handed over, and the number of Type 41 or Type 44 has not been investigated. The first batch of 500 units was paid in May 1955 (the 44th year of the Republic of China), and the second batch of 560 units was paid in May 1956 (the 45th year of the Republic of China).
