Cha Shan Air Base is the newer of the Hualien airbases. It is located approximately 2-5km from the old Hualien AB.

Cha Shan AB features an aircraft shelter built into the mountain with a storage capavity of about 100 aircraft. In addition to its own runway, the facility features taxiways linking it to the old Hualien Airbase.

The home unit is the 401st TFW. Also located at the base is the 12th TRS which, as of mid-2002, had almost completed its transition to the F-16 aircraft to be ussed in a RECCE role. Prior to that, the 12th TRS used to operate RF-104G out of Taoyuan until 1998.
