298th Motorized Infantry Brigade
The 298th Motorized Infantry Brigade is scheduled to be disbanded as part of the ROCA's modernization efforts. The brigade will combined with elements of the 395th Armored Brigade to form a new mechanized infantry brigade.
Previously, the 298th Brigade was the 998th brigade of the 333rd Infantry Division. In 1997 the division was disbanded and the 998th was redesignated.
In April 2004 Mike Huang noted that "Due to persistent lack of equipment, all motorized infantry brigades will be de-established. Their assets will be combined with existing armored infantry brigades to form mechanized infantry brigades. 298 Brigade is already in the process of being merged with 395 Brigade, and others will follow suit. The 2xx designations are expected to disappear, but it is not known whether the new mechanized infantry brigades will carry the 3xx designations or not."
