Vympel CVD actively develops the civilian shipbuilding sector, remaining the executor of the state defense order in the interests of the Ministry of Defense, the border service of the Federal Security Service of Russia and the Federal Service of the National Guard forces.
The history of JSC "Shipbuilding plant " Vympel "began in 1930, when the city of Rybinsk ( at the time was a member of the Ivanovo industrial area, since 1936 - as part of the Yaroslavl region) boatyard was established. Initially, the company specialized in the production of tugboats. The first boat was laid July 9, 1931 and completed on November 18. The boat with a displacement of about 6 tons had a length of 11.5 m and could carry 20 passengers at a speed of 15 km / h. Two years later, the first all-welded tugboat was built. In 1934, 66 vessels were handed over to customers. In 1935, the first four boats for export were built. During this period, the plant began to specialize in the construction of combat boats.
From the first days of the Great Patriotic War, the work of the plant was rebuilt on a war footing, the boats were equipped with weapons. In 1944, the production of long-range torpedo boats began, two years later a series of 24 units was completed. These were the first large torpedo boats in the steel hull in the country. By the end of the war, the output of boats increased significantly: in 1945, 238 units were produced. Basically it was the towing motor boats BMK-70.
With the end of the war, the plant was entrusted with the construction of road sweepers with a displacement of 100-300 tons. A new ship assembly shop was built, three times larger than all previously available. The first minesweepers T-587 were launched in the spring of 1948. In 1949, the construction of fireboats began, continuing to this day. In the 1960s, marine hydrographic boats were produced, the T-63M towboats (2033 boats for 14 years) were launched in a large series.
From the mid-1950s, a new stage of activity began - the construction of missile boats. The first boat of the project 205 was commissioned in 1963, in total for the 12 years 64 units were built. These boats, equipped with P-15 cruise missiles, clearly showed themselves in local conflicts in the Middle East and the Indian Ocean and led to a "boom of booms" in world shipbuilding.
In 1973, the head boat of the new project 205ER was built at the plant. During 12 years 86 boats were launched, which were delivered to the countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The year 1980 was the milestone for the plant - the year of the delivery of the head rocket boat of the project 1241RE Molniya. This boat is in compliance with the best international standards, and surpasses the best foreign models in road performance and power installation. In the early 1990s, the company changed its form of ownership and after corporatisation became known as JSC " Shipbuilding plant " Vympel ". Currently, the major shareholders are OJSC " Rosoboronexport" and Concern " Kalashnikov".
