Assault Gun ISU-130, Object “250”

Soviet experimental Assault Gun ISU-130, Object “250” was developed in 1944. An experimental batch was issued. I was not at military service. In the battles did not participate. In connection with the end of the Great Patirotic War, the work was stopped. General layout – the combat compartment is located in the cabin and the front of the hull. Armament – the gun is mounted on trunnions in the front part of the felling and is shifted to the right with respect to the longitudinal axis of the machine; gate wedge, horizontal; there is a system for blowing the barrel bore with compressed air; telescopic and panoramic sights are installed. Protection – hull and felling crocheted, from rolled armor plates.

In parallel with the work on the ACS ISU-122-1, which was a logical continuation of the self-propelled guns of the IC series, but armed with a 122-mm A-19 cannon, they decided to go a little further in the design bureau of plant No. 100 and create a more powerful machine. Together with the TsKKB NKV, under the general direction of VG Grabin, in mid-1944, work was carried out on the installation of a 130-mm naval gun B-13 with a horizontal wedge gate and a T-type muzzle brake in the ISU-122S case.

The design of the ISU-130 practically did not differ from the serial ISU-122C. The armored body of the self-propelled unit was welded from rolled armored plates 100, 90, 75, 60, 30 and 20 mm thick, and its frontal part was an armored casting. The layout of the ACS has not changed. The undercarriage consisted of 12 dual track rollers with individual torsion bar suspension, 6 supporting rollers, front guides and rear toothed gear wheels. Each caterpillar consisted of 86 single-bed tracks 650 mm wide.

The new gun, which received the S-26 index, was mounted in a frame on the frontal armor plate of the cabin and had vertical pickup angles from -1 ° 12 'to + 14 ° 14', the sector of horizontal pickup was 11 ° 43 '. Balancing the rocking part of the gun in the trunnions was carried out by attaching goods to the fixed part of the cannon fence. The gun was equipped with a device for blowing the barrel bore with compressed air after the shot. The direct shot range is 1100-1300 m for a target height of 2.5-3 m, the direct-shot shot range is 5 km, the practical rate of fire was 2 shots per minute. The shot was made by means of electric or manual mechanical descent. The ammunition set comprised 26 separate loading shots, which were stacked on both sides of the cabin and on the floor of the combat compartment.

To monitor the environment, three MK-IV devices were used. Shooting from the gun was carried out using a telescopic sight ST-18 (direct fire) and panorama Hertz (from closed positions). To ensure the possibility of fire in the dark, the scales of sight had illumination devices.

A 12-cylinder 4-stroke B-2IS engine with a capacity of 520 hp was installed in the aft hull. The electric drive of the inertia starter was an auxiliary electric motor with a power of 0.88 kW. The V-2IS diesel engine was completed with the NK-1 high-pressure fuel pump with an all-regulator RNK-1 regulator and fuel supply corrector. To clean the air entering the engine, a “multicyclone” type filter was used. Also in the engine compartment installed heating devices to facilitate engine start in the cold season.

The transmission of the machine consisted of a multi-plate main friction clutch of dry friction, a 4-speed gearbox with a de-multiplier (8 forward gears and 2 reverse gears), two onboard two-speed planetary rotation mechanism with a multidisk steel-friction lock clutch gearboxes.

The self-propelled crew was reduced to 4 people by removing the castle - now its functions performed loader. Communications equipment included a 10RK-26 radio station and an intercom system TPU-4-BisF for 4 subscribers.

The factory tests of ISU-130 began in October 1944, and in November test range trials were conducted. The impression of the new SAU was twofold. On the one hand, the S-26 cannon was superior in power to the analogous tank artillery systems, but its installation in the IU-122C chopping room required modifications. In addition, the length of the barrel was rightly considered excessive - it went beyond the dimensions of the self-propelled gun by 4.8 meters, and the total length was 11.42 meters. This created enormous problems when driving through woodland and overcoming wide trenches. It was not possible to completely eliminate these shortcomings, and therefore work on ISU-130 was curtailed in early 1945.
