Gorizont Air S-100 [Camcopter S-100]

"Gorizont Air S-100" is the Russian name for the Camcopter S-100 drone, developed by the Austrian company Schiebel. Designed and built by the Austrian firm Schiebel with the participation of the German company Diehl BGT Defense . Development was carried out from 2003 to 2005. OJSC Horizont (Rostov-on-Don), together with Schiebel, launched the production of unmanned helicopters in Russia, where the complex is called the UAV "Horizont Air S-100". The fuselage is assembled from composite materials. Navigation is carried out using the GPS, GLONASS systems. Control can be carried out at a distance of up to 50, 90 and 200 kilometers from the base in the zone of direct radio visibility (depending on the selected antenna of the main communication channel).

In 2011, the complex was tested in Russia on a ship, under conditions mountainous area, where he confirmed the manufacturer's specifications in excess. Takeoff and landing of an aircraft on an unprepared site are possible in automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes. This was the only helicopter-type UAV in the world that had been tested as a deck-based UAV and accepted for supply by the navies of various countries of the world. When ship-based, the approach of the aircraft for landing from the side of the stern of the NK and the speed of the NK is 8 knots. The maximumsea state during takeoff and landing of an aircraft is no more than 5 points. Wind force during takeoff and landing of aircraft - no more than 20 knots. The direction of the wind is arbitrary.

On 25 August 2011, the crew Bershatskiy - Kantsur completed the first flight of the UAV system "Gorizont Air S-100" at the area of Russia and transmitted the data to the external source in real time mode. The main tasks on detection, recognition and video surveillance of the objects were completed in full. In September 2011 (the Cape Big Utrish, Krasnodar kray) operational tests of the “Gorizont Air S-100” UAC were carried out to prove tasks solution for Coast Guard of of the Federal Security Service of the RF. The tasks of detecting, recognizing and tracking targets have been successfully resolved.

In October 2011 (Novorossisk, Kaliningrad oblast) operational trials for Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service of the RF. First flights of UAV complex “Gorizont Air S-100” from the border guard cruiser Rubin (Novorossisk). Tasks: checking the possibility of take-off and landing from the the deck of the border guard cruiser with the subsequent hand-over of control from the shipborne control station system to the ground control station and vice versa - completed successfully. By the report of operational trials for the test sample of unmanned aerial vehicle "Gorizont Air S-100”, the UAV complex was recommended for introduction into the inventory of the Federal Security Service.

On April 9-12, 2012 the Globaltech, the Brazilian partner of the Gorizont, participated in the exhibition “LAAD Security 2012” (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and exhibited products designed with Gorizont OAO. In particular, the Mobile Patrol Complex Patriot Okapi –BR of joint Russian-Brazilian production. The AV of the “Gorizont Air S-100” unmanned aerial complex manufactured by Gorizont OAO based on the “Camcopter S-100” developed by SCHIEBEL (Austria) was presented at the booth as well.

In September 2012 (Saint Peterburg) UAV complex "Gorizont Air S-100" completed successfully the trials on the icebreaker board. The trials were carried out on the icebreaker board Capitan Sorokin in the Baltic sea. The helicopter completed several flights. New information was received both about the special aspects of basing on an icebreaker, and regarding studies of the capabilities of the complex for solving ice reconnaissance tasks and conducting search and rescue operations. Additional requirements for the payload for solving tasks in difficult ice conditions are identified.

January - April 2014 (Sochi, Kaliningrad oblast) unmanned helicopter by Gorizont OAO guarded the Olympic village. Throughout the XXII Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games the UAV complex “Gorizont Air S-100” created as a result of fruitful cooperation between the Austrian company SCHIEBEL and Gorizont, OAO (Russia) operates in Adler. In particular, UAV complex “Gorizont Air S-100” monitors the area of 50 km from seaside around the Olympic village. “S-100” upholds its reputation of state-of-the-art multi-purpose VTOL UAV one more time. As there is no need of takeoff runway or special ground aircraft equipment, the UAV complex can be used both from board of the ship and ground. This UAV complex is provided with mobile application that ensures fast deployment. Technical characteristics of the complex allow to carry out operations within limited space in mountains and objects like maritime platform and other waterworks as well. All data received by “Gorizont Air S-100” during the XXII Winter Olympic Games in real time, through integration, entered the unified security system of the Olympics and Paralympic Games.
