D-80 535-mm self-propelled artillery
In the early 1960s, the Artillery plant OKB #9 drafted a gun-launcher of special power, which by its characteristics were comparable with the requirements of that period, under the designation A-80. Under this theme were worked out three options for guns with various modifications. The first was a wheeled self-propelled unit, as its base chassis which was supposed to use an experienced tractor ZIL-135L with an automatic transmission (which at that time also planned for the base chassis part for mounting PU 2P16 PTRC 2d6 "Luna"), in the unit with two-axle semitrailer active. The Draft wheeled ACS successfully passed the stage of the protection in GRAU and the Minister of Defense Industry of the USSR S.Zverev
At the time of the development of the system D-80 was a serious competitor with the 2d6 "Luna" FROG: for example, DB-9 guidance system projectile and correction was developed, which allowed to achieve similar accuracy. However, with the advent of modern PTRC 9K79 «point», further development of all A-80 ground-based options lost sense and work on them were stopped.
As weapons rifled gun-launcher A-80 caliber 535mm was designed to fire rocket-assisted projectile weighing 905 kg, the calculated range was 60 km. The draft of this machine gun was placed not on the main landing gear, and the active and semi-trailer shooting was carried out with mortar base plate. Above the cab of the vehicle had a special rotating cassette for ammunition with four charges.
The 535-mm self-propelled artillery / missile launcher with internal designation CB "BAP" was design to fire rocket-assisted projectiles. It was initiated at artillery factory #9 (Sverdlovsk) in 1963, Chief Designer - F.F.Petrov. The development also included NII-1, NII-24, NII-125, NII-13, NII-61 and others. DB-9 operating systems made models D-80 at 1:10 tracked and wheeled chassis. Layouts are used to the stage GRAU project and the Minister of Defense Industry of the USSR. When creating the system, thoguht was given to the possibility of weapons of migration on Navy ships.
Preliminary design installation DB-9 reviewed May 10, 1965. In October 1968 the plant "Barricades" (Volgograd) has been given an order for the production of pipes and breech to D-80. At the end of 1968, all work on the D-80 was stopped. Construction of real samples was not conducted. For tests at the site in the village of Krasnaya created a sample of the cannon. The project was redesigned and received a code D-80C, but was also rejected. In September 1969, the OKB-9 proposed project D-80-2 with loading breech, under the scheme, which was close to the 240-mm mortar M-240.

Installation length | 12570 mm |
installation width | 3250 mm |
Installation height | 3680 mm |
Weight | 35 tons |
maximum speed on the highway | 60 km / h |
Trunk installations D-80 had a recoil device with a long back and a muzzle brake with an efficiency of 58%. Cradle D-80 rested against the pan, dropped to the ground. The loading was done with a special muzzle loader device. Unloading - the same mechanism. The loading was done separately: first round, and then lifting charge. They fired projectiles (missiles), which had finished rifling on the body. Vertical barrel pointing produces hydraulic device is powered by the PTO from the chassis engine. In addition, it has been provided and the manual transmission. The mechanism of horizontal guidance sector type. The sight of the mechanical type, taken from the 122 mm howitzer D-30.
With the installation of the complex D-80 planne d transport and loading vehicle in the same chassis "object 429". Ammunition capacity shots - 11.
