ANT-2 light passenger aircraft

This light passenger aircraft, launched into serial production, was the first domestic all-metal aircraft. Successful development of the production of semi-finished products of aluminum mail (sheet metal, corrugation, profiles, pipes, rivets) enabled the team led by A.N. Tupolev to begin developing the small all-metal ANT-2 aircraft.

In May 1923, the Commission on the construction of metal aircraft began to fulfill the order of the UHVS for the construction of a single-engine aircraft in two versions: in the passenger, designed to carry 2-3 passengers, and a variant of the reconnaissance aircraft, with the placement of the Letnab with a machine gun. For the ANT-2, the scheme of a free-carrying all-metal monoplane with an upstream wing was chosen. The Bristol "Lucifer" engine, with a capacity of 100 hp, was installed on the first prototype machine.

In May 1924, the first ANT-2 was completed with construction and on May 26, 1924, pilot-engineer N.I. Petrov first lifted the plane into the air. The test aircraft was tested until April 1925. According to their results, it was decided to release a series of 5 cars by the workshops of the Kolchuginsky plant. In the series, the aircraft, designated ANT-2bis, was equipped with a 200 hp engine. and was designed to carry 3 people. Due to the workload of the KB to deploy the ANT-3 (R-3) series, it was not possible to fully implement plans for the production of five ANT-2bis, in 1930 one ANT-2bis was built and flew. Also, the project of an intelligence officer based on the ANT-2 was not implemented. The preserved and restored AHT-2 can be seen in the exposition of the Museum of the Air Force in Monino.
