Project 11711E Vladimir Andreev - Kaiman / Cayman
Large Landing Ship (BDK) Bolshoj Desantnyj Korabl

Project 11711M - Large Landing Ship (BDK)On 23 April 2019, the third and fourth BDKs of Project 11711, Vladimir Andreev and Vasily Trushin, were laid at Yantar. They will be transferred to the Russian Navy in 2023 and 2024, respectively. As the president of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexei Rakhmanov explained, the dimensions of new ships increased and their displacement will increase to 7-8 thousand tons. Representatives of the enterprise also confirmed that the new BDK will carry on-board attack helicopters Ka-52K Katran. In particular, the add-in differs from the base project.

Other changes were made to the project without cipher adjustment. This is most confusing, since in principle these new ships should at least be Project 11711M or 11712. Vladimir Andreev was a Soviet admiral, participant in the Great Patriotic War. Since April 1943, he commanded the North Pacific Naval Flotilla. He distinguished himself by a successful landing operation to capture South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands in August-September 1945, carried out under his leadership. Vasily Trushin was a Soviet military leader, major general, Hero of the Soviet Union. In August 1945, he distinguished himself during a successful landing operation to seize the city and the Japanese naval base Seishin in the territory of the present DPRK. September 14, 1945 for the courage and heroism shown in battles with Japanese troops, was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Two of the newest large landing ships (BDKs) of the Ivan Gren type will be part of the Pacific Fleet. These are projects for the laying of which at the Kaliningrad Yantar plant in April of this year, Vladimir Putin watched in a teleconference mode, the Navys Commander-in-Chief told Izvestia. In the fleet, these BDKs have already received the name "presidential landing".

Large amphibious ships of the project 11711 Vladimir Andreev and Vasily Trushin are a radically redesigned project of the ship Ivan Gren, completed by the Nevsky Design Bureau. In particular, judging by the profile on the embedded board of one of the ships, the new BDKs have a revised surface part: a massive superstructure over the entire width of the hull in the bow and a smooth deck in the stern.

If the ships were serial, that is, they fully complied with the previously developed design documentation for the construction of orders of the head. NoNo301, 302, the plant would significantly reduce the time for their construction and testing (according to the reference schedule - up to 3-4 months from the lead ship terms). However, these ships can be called serial only conditionally, since their dimensions are seriously changing and, in all likelihood, the energy is changing. The new BDKs will differ from their predecessors in the basic parameters of the hull: the hull will be modernized, and a minor adjustment will be required in the matter of preparing the production. But there are no revolutionary solutions on these ships. No fundamentally new technologies will be applied, and the plant will not experience difficulties in this regard. With a displacement of 8,000 tons, it can be assumed that the new BDKs would have a length of not more than 145 meters [about 470 feet], a width of 15 to 18 m, a draft of at least 4 m. Power plants are used similar to the previous project - two diesel engines with a total capacity of up to 9000 kW, speed - up to 18 knots , cruising range - not less than 5000 miles with a 14-knot course. Five Ka-27 / Ka-29 helicopters or four Ka-52K helicopters can be based on ships. The ship is most likely equipped with a stern dock. It can take no more than 400 assault troops and about 40 units of armored vehicles. The equipment will be loaded on board either independently by ramps, or using a special crane with a lifting capacity of 16 tons. For this, a cargo hatch is provided on the upper deck.

During the modernization of the BDK, emphasis will be placed on the possibility of using high-speed boats, landing boats and support helicopters, sources in the Defense Ministry told Izvestia. They will be able to carry Project 03160 Raptor and Project 02510 BK-16 fast-attack boats to improve their ability to deliver and employ SOF. the former head of the General Staff of the Navy, Admiral Valentin Selivanov explained to Izvestia "Boats will allow special forces to quickly and imperceptibly approach the shore to ensure the successful landing of the main landing force. They will destroy the most important firing points, clear mine approaches to the shore.

The speed of the BK-16 is 40 knots, its length is 15 m, its width is 3.8 m. With modest dimensions, it has a solid cruising range of 400 miles. The boat can accommodate 19 special forces soldiers, marines or combat swimmers in full gear. The boat can be loaded into the landing compartment or on the BDK deck using a ship crane. To simplify the lifting procedure as much as possible, eyebrows are installed on it - special rings that allow you to quickly hook the boat with hooks. A new remote-controlled gyro-stabilized combat module can be installed on the BK-16. Four other types of weapons are provided: machine guns of 12.7 mm or 7.62 mm caliber, 30-mm and 40-mm grenade launchers. From the side of the boat, operators can quickly launch unmanned reconnaissance light class.

It is possible that the ships of the amended project 11711 Vladimir Andreev and Vasily Trushin will be equipped with special docking chamber for quick launching of boats. In any case, their appearance resembles universal landing docks, he said. - There are several options for launching combat boats into the water. The simplest is with a crane. But with strong excitement, this is a complex and unsafe process. There are also devices that allow patrol boats to exit through the aft ramp. But the most perfect way of landing is through the dock.

For comparison, the Priboy [Surf] design would be a relatively larger-size (a 14,000-ton, 165 meters in length and 25 meters in width) helicopter carrier capable of transporting 8 helicopters, up to 600 marines and between 40-60 armored vehicles.

Nevsky Design Bureau (PKB) (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC) presented the large landing craft (BDK) Cayman of the updated project 11711E with increased displacement and landing capacity at the International Naval Salon in St. Petersburg 10 July 2019. Information about the project is presented in advertising materials at the stand of the Design Bureau in the pavilion of the salon. "Cayman" BDK is intended for receiving, transporting by sea and landing in cooperation with other means of the fleet on an unequipped coast of troops and equipment during the amphibious landing operation, providing naval military transportation, staging defensive mines and net barriers and sonar buoys for positioning systems of underwater observations in the oceanic, marine coastal zones," the project description says.

In the United States, amphibious ships are called "gators". The Alligator family includes two subfamilies: the Alligatorinae subfamily and the Caimaninae subfamily, and there are several more genera and different species in them. The main visual difference between representatives of the alligator genus from real crocodiles is the structure of the head. The alligator's face is more flattened and wider. When the mouth is closed, teeth are completely or almost completely hidden. The main visual difference between representatives of the alligator genus from real crocodiles is the structure of the head. The alligator's face is more flattened and wider. When the mouth is closed, teeth are completely or almost completely hidden. Real crocodiles includes three genera and 14 species of different crocodiles; it is boring to list them all. Nile crocodiles are not only very big, but also extremely aggressive. A Nile crocodile can easily attack a hippopotamus or even a rhino. Alligators are of course large (up to 4.5 meters), but this is not so often. But real crocodiles grow up to 7 meters and can weigh up to two tons. The Gavial family includes only two modern species: the Gangan gavial and the gavial crocodile. They are also smaller than real crocodiles and not so aggressive. It is impossible to mix gavials with alligators and real crocodiles - they look very funny - they have very thin and narrow faces.

According to the materials presented at the design bureau stand, the total displacement of the ship will be about 8,000 tons, standard - 7,000 tons, maximum length - 150 meters, autonomy - about 120 days, full speed - about 18 knots. The ships power plant will receive a total power of 11,000 hp, which will allow it to reach a maximum speed of 18 knots. The ship will be equipped with bow and stern ramps., The crew of the ship is about 120 people. The landing ship will be able to carry up to two transport landing or search and rescue helicopters, as well as from six to ten assault boats located on davits. In addition, the ship will receive six landing boats with a carrying capacity of at least 45 tons. The Cayman will be equipped with an integrated automated combat-control system of operational-tactical level, a navigation complex, an integrated electronic warfare subsystem, and a three-coordinate radar station for general detection. The armament of the BDK will consist of two rocket-artillery modules, as well as two anti-aircraft artillery systems. In addition, the ship can be equipped with one 76 mm universal artillery mount.

Judging by the Cayman model, it can be noted that by transferring the aft superstructure to the nose and combining it with the bow in the aft part of the BDK, designers managed to get a spacious flight deck capable of providing simultaneous take-off of two helicopters. It is entirely possible that helicopters will also climb into the landing hold, inside which six landing ships of the Serna type can fit. If so, then possibly the ship will be able to carry up to 10 helicopters. Thus, in terms of their capabilities, the new paratroopers approached the BDK of project 1174 Rhinoceros, which was in service with the Russian Navy from 1978 to 2006.
