603rd Infantry Brigade, 6th Infantry Division
"Persuader"
The mission of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, 6th Infantry Division, "Persuader," is to conducts internal security operations in its area of responsibility against various anti-government groups and assist the local government agencies in order to establish a physically and psychologically secured environment conducive to development and progress. Its specific functions include: Conducting ground operations in all types of local weather and on all types of local terrain; planning and conducting the defense of the area of responsibility against insurgency or disorder; maintaining the combat readiness of regular troops; conducting psychological operations in support of its tactical mission; conducting disaster/rescue and relief operations within its area of responsibility; supervising the implementation of civil military operations; participating in field exercises with other Philippine Army units, other Armed Forces of the Philippines units, or allied foregn forces as directed by higher headquarters; conducting activities that will contribute to the preservation of natural resources and maintenance of the ecological balance; and performing other task as directed by higher headquarters.
The 603rd Infantry Brigade, 6th Infantry Division traces its lineage to the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 12th Infantry Brigade (Separate). The decision was eventually made to inactivate the 12th Infantry Brigade (Separate) and convert it into a full division, subsequently designated the 6th Infantry Division. The 3rd Infantry Brigade, 6th Infantry Division was formally activated on 1 May 1987 pursuant to Section II, General Orders Number 168, Headquarters, Philippine Army, dated 23 April 1987.
The Brigade was redesignated as the 603rd Infantry Brigade pursuant to General Orders Number 199, Headquarters, Philippine Army, dated 20 April 1988. The Brigade took over th headquarters previously occupied by the 2nd Infantry Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division in Pigcalagan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. The unit was subsequently moved to Sitio Bombaran, Tugaig, Barira, Maguindanao by order of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on 2 July 2002. The camp occupied by the 603rd Infantry Brigade Headquarters was given the name Camp Datu Duma Sinsuat initially, but was renamed to Camp Iranun in honor of the Iranun tribe, who inhabit Barira and its neighboring municipalities.
