64th Infantry Battalion
"Knights"

The mission of the 64th Infantry Battalion, "Knights," is to conduct sustained internal security operations against anti-government groups in order to promote a secured environment conducive to development.

The 64th Infantry Battalion was organized on 1 May 1987 pursuant to General Orders Number 41, Headquarters, Philippine Army, dated 27 April 1987. The core of its intial personnel came from other battalions assigned to the 12th Infantry Brigade (Separate). The unit was first based with the headquarters of the 12th Infantry Brigade (Separate) at Camp Siongco, Awang, Dinaig, Maguindanao for the purposes of training and equipping its personnel. On 22 August 1987, the Battalion was deployed to Doña Andrea, Asuncion, Davao del Norte. Its area of responsibility included the municipalities of Asuncion, Kapalong and a portion of Carmen, Panabo and Laak, all in Davao del Norte. In October 1987, the 12th Infantry Brigade (Separate) was inactivated and transformed into the 6th Infantry Division, to which the 64th Infantry Battalion was assigned.

On 16 September 1989, the Battalion headquarters was transferred to Dalisay Village, Panabo, Davao del Norte. The Battalion's new area of responsibility covered the municipalities of Santo Tomas, a portion of Kapalong, Panabo and Carmen, all in Davao del Norte, as well as the whole of Paquibato District, Davao City.

On 19 April 1990, the Battalion was transferred back to its former location at Doña Andrea, Asuncion, Davao del Norte. Its new AOR covered the municipalities of Asuncion, Kapalong, Santo Tomas, San Vicente, New Corella and Talaingod, all in Davao del Norte. In early 1994 the unit's AOR was extended up to Agusan del Sur, covering its 2 municipalities, Loreto and Veruela.

On 16 October 1995, the Battalion headquarters was transferred to Aleosan, Cotabato. Its AOR consisted of the municipalities of Aleosan, Alamada, Banisilan, and portion of Carmen and Pikit municipalities, all in Cotabato province. On 20 March 1999, the Battalion was brought back to Davao to conduct a search and rescue operation for military personnel in Davao City.

Eventually, the 64th Infantry Battalion was tasked as the Division Ready Reserve Force on 15 april 1999. This came as the 77th Infantry Battalion, an element of the 5th Infantry Division, took over its previous AOR. The Battalion headquarters was temporarily based in Brgy Salunayan, Midsayap, Cotabato until 31 March 2000.

On 1 April 2000, the Battalion was transferred to Brgy Rotonda, Koronadal, South Cotabato. Its new AOR covered the 2 municipalities of Columbio and Lutayan, in Sultan Kudarat and the 3 municipalities of Tantangan, Tampakan and Koronadal, in South Cotabato. On 25 June 2000, the unit was transferred again, this time to Brgy Kablon, Tupi, South Cotabato. The unit's AOR was expanded to include 2 municipalities, Tupi and Polomolok, both in South Cotabato. The CAA Companies in these municipalities were placed under the operational control of the Battalion.

On 25 November 2000, the Battalion headquarters moved to a new AOR, based at Camp Abdulrahman Bedis (formerly the MILF Military Academy), South Bombaran, Brgy Tugaig, Barira, Maguindanao. On 20 December 2000, the Battalion assumed the operational control of the 15th Infantry Battalion at Sitio Diromoyod, Brgy Tugaig, Barira, Maguindanao.

On 05th day of february 2003, the unit extended its AOR to include Matanog, Maguindanao. This was in order to secure the area vacated by Marine Battalion Landing Team 8, Philippine Marine Corps.
