Khan Yunis
Khan Yunis, a southern Palestinian town in the Gaza Strip, is most remembered for its defiance and for the number of its sons and daughters killed in each stage of the Palestinian struggle. In the current Palestinian uprising, hundreds of its residents were killed or wounded, dozens of its houses bombed and bulldozed, and many of its fighters arrested. The PLO sent mortars, RPG, and other incendiary devices into Jewish areas in the Gush Katif and Gaza areas from Khan Yhunis.
In August 2001 Israeli helicopter gunships blasted a headquarters belonging to Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's personal guard, Force 17, in Khan Yunis.
