Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) / Havelian Cantt

Pakistan Ordnance Factories are the premier defence industries in Pakistan producing a wide range of conventional defensive ammunitions to international standards. With technologies & equipments acquired from USA, UK, France, Germany & China, these factories employ some of the latest state of the art processes, including computerized numerical controlled machines and flexible Manufacturing systems for the production of precision components. The wide range of products include a variety of NATO caliber Infantry weapons and their ammo, Tank ammo, Air craft and anti air craft ammo, Artillery ammo, Rockets, Air craft bombs, Pyrotechnics, Mortar bombs and Hand grenade & a number of ordnance and commercial products.

In addition to meeting the demands of Defence Forces, POF products are in service with over 30 countries with an ever expanding galaxy of satisfied customers. Pakistan Ordnance Factories also specialize in the manufacture of commerical explosive, hunting ammunition and posses extensive facilities for the manufacture of brass, copper and aluminum ingots, extrusions and sections for non-military applications. A garments factory, which has the state of the art cloth cutting facilities and most modern stiching units, manufactures military uniforms and can also cater for the needs of the civil sector. POF also provides specialized training in courses related to armanent production in its Institute of Technology equipped with some of the latest simulation and training aids.

Recognized for quality, reliability and competitive prices POF products are internationally accepted. Pakistan Ordnance Factories is the largest defence industrial complex under the ministry of defence production, producing conventional arms & ammo to international standards. In 1951 POF was established as expanded as a sprawling complex of fourteen mainstream industries and six commercial subsidiaries. POF Board, at present, operates 14 factories and also possesses 100% shares of Wah Industries Ltd., which is a subsidiary and commercial Window of POF.

The Annual Budget of Rs. 7,414.228 Million was allocated for the FY: 2006-2007 by the Government of Pakistan to achieve the targets of Armed Forces; however, POF spent Rs. 1,378.985 Million from its own sources to augment the Budget and to meet requirements of raw materials and store. During 2006-07, POF had a total target worth Rs. 12.831 Billion (including backlogs) from the Armed Forces, against which dispatches worth RS. 5.94 Billion have been made upto 30-6-2007. POF adopted an aggressive and revamped marketing strategy during last year because of which export orders jumped to approx US$ 25 million for the financial year 2006-07. Out of these goods worth US$ 18 million have been dispatched and orders worth US$ 7 million are in hand, while Letter of Credit worth US$ 7-8 Million are awaited. (Which if materialized will take the figure to 33-34 million US$).

POF has obtained the accreditation of ISO in following standards, which were audited by External Auditors during the year and accreditation extended: -

  • ISO 9001-2000 Pertains to International Quality Standards for Design, Development & Manufacture of Small Arms and Ammunitions etc.
  • ISO-14001 International Certificate for maintaining ideal Environmental Standards.
  • 1SO-17025 Pertains to the Certification of Material Testing Labs, Ballistic Labs and Standards Labs.
  • ISO-18001 Pertains to occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.

Like any dynamic and progressive organization, POF has evolved a futuristic Vision-2020 to cater for the emerging economic and global challenges and to enter into the new areas of excellence. As part of the Vision-2020, POF has undertaken a number of joint venture propositions with foreign partners on the basis of co-production and co-marketing, to allow inflow of Technology and enhance our capacity.

POF Institute of Technology (POFIT), Wah. is imparting both Technical & Management Training to Artisans, Staff and Officers. In Addition, 3 year's Diploma of Associate Engineering classes are also held in five Disciplines in the Evening. Rs. 1.562 Million worth scholarships were given to deserving students, including of Deeni Madarass.

Cleanliness of Wah Cantt is the focus of better and prosperous environment. An amount of about Rs. 20 Million was spent for the renovation of quarters and special maintenance/uplift of Estate Area by POF management. 15 personnel of the organization are going to perform UMRAH and 2 will go for Hajj in recognition of their good work. A 500 bed modern POF Hospital and 20 Dispensaries provide round the clock health care facilities to POF employees, their families and to general public in and around Wah Cantt, Havelian Cantt and Sanjwal Cantt.

POF has excellent sports facilities of international standard like 9 hole Golf Club, Skeet Club, Indoor Games Hall, Squash Courts, Synthetic and Clay Tennis Courts, Hockey Ground having Astroturf, Cricket, Athletics and Football Grounds.
