Notes
1 - According to the SIPRI Trade Register for Mongolia, the country received a total of 28 An-24 aircraft between 1970 and 1975. It is likely that the gap and pre cense of An-24s starting in 2000 indicates aircraft from these original purchases returned to service.
2 - Of the periods sampled, only the IISS Military Balance for 1995 mentions Chinese Y-12 aircraft. The SIPRI Trade Register for Mongolia makes no mention of such a transfer. This suggests that this might have been a proposed sale that never materialized.
3 - According to the SIPRI Trade Register for Mongolia, the country received a total of 10 Mi-8T aircraft in 1980-1981. It then received 2 Mi-171 aircraft in 2007-2008. The number in the 2005-2006 IISS Military Balance appears to indicate the pending sale of the Mi-171 aircraft. After that, the IISS Military Balance also lists 11 Mi-8 aircraft. It is unclear whether any Mi-8 aircraft remain airworthy.
