IJN Chin Yen Class Battleship
The Chin Yen was originally laid down in 1880 and built as the Chen Yuan, a Ting Yuen class battleship of the Chinese Navy. She was launched on 28 November 1882 and completed three yeas later. She served in the Chinese Navy for thirteen years until her capture at the port of Wei-Hai-Wei on 12 February 1895 by the Japanese during the Sino-Japanese war of 1895. The Chen Yuan was immediately converted for use in the Japanese Navy. Renamed the Chin Yen, she was re-armed and refitted as the first battleship of the Japanese Navy.
She was present, but did not engage, at the Battle of the Yellow Sea and the bombardment of Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese War. By 1910, she was formally removed from the active fleet and served as a training ship. She was scrapped in 1914.
