DDH-183 Izumo 22DDH Class - Design

The "Izumo" class warship is much enlarged and greatly improved based on the "Hyuga" class, with a length of 248 meters, a waterline width of 29 meters, a standard displacement of 19,500 tons and a full-load displacement of 27,000 tons. In sharp contrast to its own title, this class of ship has the same all-around flight deck as previous attack aircraft carriers and contemporary light aircraft carriers, with a fairly compact superstructure located in the middle of the starboard side of the warship. The two warships are centered on the use of aircraft. In addition to sensors, they are only equipped with a single ship anti-aircraft weapon, which is more versatile and versatile.

The main hull of the "Izumo" class warship consists of 8 decks with high freeboard. The top deck is the first deck, the flight deck, and the bottom deck is the eighth deck. The front and rear ends of the 2nd deck include temporary personnel living areas, telecommunications rooms, short-range defense system control rooms, captain's rooms, and command rooms. The central part is the aviation personnel standby room, aviation affairs room, combat information center (CIC), and fleet information center (FIC). More than half of the space on decks 3 to 5 is the hangar.

The hangar has an aviation repair hangar, and the ceiling of the repair hangar is the flight deck. This class of ship also has two front and rear garages, which are mainly used to park helicopter tractors. Garage No. 1 is in front of Deck 1, and Garage No. 2 is at the back of Aviation Repair Depot. In addition to tractors, the ship also has vehicles such as fire engines, wheeled cranes, forklifts, and aerial vehicles. The "Izumo" class warship has a strong personnel transportation capacity, and the number of temporary personnel that can be boarded reaches 450. Due to the increase in the number of temporary passengers, the "Izumo" class has reserved ample living spaces, and the living quarters are widely distributed on the second and fourth decks. There are also on-board ammunition depots before, after and on the 7th and 8th decks, which currently mainly store torpedoes and missiles used by anti-submarine helicopters.

In addition to the ammunition depot, the ship is also equipped with sonar buoy depots and other materials related to aviation operations. Between the 6th and 8th decks, there are compartments such as the machinery room, and the double bottom is below the 8th deck. In addition to the machinery room, generator room, pump room and fin stabilizer room on the 8th deck, there are also various storage tanks, such as fuel tanks, fresh water tanks, and JP-5 aviation fuel. Tanks, temporary fuel tanks, etc. The use of temporary fuel tanks can provide marine fuel supplies for other warships. This class of ship is equipped with an oil transfer device in the middle of the island. The oil transfer coil can be operated on the rear chimney platform. The 01 deck at the front of the island is also equipped with a hoist, which can be replenished by a cable.

The flight deck of the "Izumo" class warship is 245 meters long and 38 meters wide. Even the flight deck on the left side of the island is 29 meters wide. At present, when only helicopters are used as carrier aircraft, only five helicopter landing points are set on the flight deck, and a search and rescue helicopter can be parked in front of the island.

In order to facilitate helicopter take-off and landing, the "Izumo" class warships are equipped with a large number of aviation control lights to ensure that the helicopter can take off and operate during the day or at night. The aviation control lights on the flight deck mainly include landing lights, deck status lights, deck border lights, starboard border lights, warship head and tail lights, deck lights, and superstructure lighting lights.

The corridor on the port side of the flight deck (known as the cat lane by the US Navy) is wider, which can improve traffic and safety. The port gallery is also equipped with aviation fuel replenishment devices, and the fuel is drawn from the JP-5 fuel tank at the bottom of the warship and transferred to the fuel supply device via the JP-5 spare fuel tank located in the pump room. In addition, the corridor is also equipped with various fire extinguishing equipment, which can be deployed on the flight deck. There is also a material supply device at the forward part of the starboard side of the warship.

The entire hangar was divided into hangar 1, hangar 2 and aviation repair hangar located behind lift 2 by the fire-resistant partition door. The Japanese side claimed that the entire hangar is 125 meters long and 21 meters wide. Currently, the standard capacity of the hangar is 8 helicopters. The No. 1 aircraft lift located in front of the hangar is located in the center of the flight deck and is inboard, 20 meters long and 13 meters wide. The No. 2 lift behind the ship island is side-type, 15 meters long and 14 meters wide. Both lifts have a load of 30 tons. The elevator is not only used to transport aircraft and helicopters, but also can carry ammunition part-time in emergency situations. It can transport various ammunition stored in the bottom ammunition depot to the flight deck. Weapons and ammunition in the ammunition depot can also be transported to the flight deck by a special lift.
