Sabra Main Battle Tank - Variants
Despite the appearance in the early 1980s of more advanced Merkava tanks, the Magakh tanks were repeatedly modernized and remained the basis of the IDF armored units until the late 1990s.
- "Magah-6" - designation of American tanks M60. During operation, almost all tanks were upgraded.
- Magakh-6 Aleph (Magakh-6A) - a modernized M60A1, with a low-profile Urdan commander's cupola, an insulating casing on the gun barrel and all-metal T97 tracks. Subsequently, all these tanks were re-upgraded to the level of "Magah-6 Bet".
- Magah-6 Bet (Magah-6B) - an upgraded M60A1 with a new AVDS-1790-2C RISE (Reliability Improved Selected Equipment engine) engine, an improved gun stabilization system and wide T142 tracks.
- "Magah-6 Beth Gal" (Magah-6B Gal)- re-modernized in the 1990s "Magah-6 Bet" with a new fire control system "Gal" ("wave"), developed by "Elbit Systems Ltd." based on the "Matador" system for "Merkava" tanks (included a new sight with a laser rangefinder). In addition, the configuration of the ERA units has changed, and a new basket of increased volume was installed at the stern of the tower. Small quantity produced.
- "Magah-6 Bet Gal Batash" (Magah-6B Gal Batash) - a variant of the "Magah-6 Bet Gal" created in 1999 with enhanced passive armor of the turret and frontal part of the hull, side skirts and a new, more powerful engine. Small quantity produced.
- "Magah-6 Bet Baz"- "Magah-6 Bet" with a new fire control system "Baz", developed for tanks "Merkava" Mk.III.
- "Magah-6 Gimel" ("Magah-6S") - a modernized tank ?60?3.
- "Magah-6 Reish" ("Magah-6R") - M60 tanks with a weapon stabilization system from "Magah-6 Bet" and a new AVDS-1790-2AG engine.
- "Magah-6 Reish *" ("Magah-6R *") - an intermediate modification, tanks "Magah-6 Reish", prepared for the installation of the new fire control system "Nahal Oz", but not yet having this system.
- "Magah-6 Mem" ("Magah-6M") - tanks "Magah-6 Reish" with the new fire control system "Nahal Oz".
- "Magah-7"- upgraded M60s with additional passive armor of the turret and hull, side skirts with the new AVDS-1790-5A engine with a capacity of 908 hp. with., caterpillars from the tank "Merkava". It was produced in several versions:
- "Magah-7 Aleph" ("Magah-7A") - a modification developed in the 1980s, has almost vertical additional armor of the frontal part of the tower.
- "Magah-7 Bet" ("Magah-7B") - not serially produced;
- "Magah-7 Gimel" ("Magah-7S") - a modification developed in the 1990s, with a strong inclination of the front armor plates of the tower; installed a laser rangefinder, a new Continental AVDS-1790-5A engine and a transmission from the Merkava Mk.I tank.
