3rd Brigade - Alexandroni
Along with eight other units, the Alexandroni Brigade was formed by David Ben-Gurion in February 1948 to operate in the Sharon central area. During the Israeli war for independence, the Alexandroni Brigade participated in a number of operations, including one that involved a diversionary attack on Wadi Ara that was designed to draw forces away from the Golani and Carmeli Brigades in May 1948. Throughout the war, the Alexandroni Brigade assisted in a number of battles, and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon served as a platoon commander in the brigade.
