36th Armoured Division
In 2001 the 36th Armoured Division was reportedly placed on alert for possible Syrian response from southern Lebanon or along the Golan Heights. The two Divisions with overall responsibility for security within the occupied territories prepared the Harouv, 'Shimshon, Rimon, Ducifhat and Nachson Mechanized Battalions, trained specially for counter-insurgency operations, for the seizure of the Palestinian Authority's infrastructure. The Nahal Mechanized infantry Brigade and elite 500th Armoured Brigade were reportedly tasked to destroy any serious Palestinian armed resistance, while Special Forces and units of the regular 'T'zanhanim' Parachute/Mechanized Brigade was to remove or arrest the leading figures in the Palestinian administration.
