211th Brigade
The 211th Brigade was an armored unit under the command of Colonel Eli Geva during Israeli operations in Lebanon in the early 1980s. In 1982, Israeli forces invaded Lebanon with the goal of eliminating PLO resistance fighters and it was the responsibility of the 211th Brigade to lead the way through heavily defended areas.
Israel's Operation Peace for Galilee got underway on June 6, 1982 when the 211th Brigade began moving beyond the Israeli-Lebanese border. During the push toward Sidon, the brigade encountered several PLO ambushes, but successfully destroyed opposing forces after taking some damage from RPGs. Although Israeli forces eventually succeeded in removing most of the PLO forces from Lebanon, Syria continued to maintain influence after the Israeli's had withdrawn.
