19th Brigade
The 19th Brigade participated in the Yom Kippur War of 1973 under the command of Major-General Moshe Peled. On October 10, 1973, the 19th Brigade was one of several that attacked the Syrian headquarters in Tel Kudne, but the offensive initially proved unsuccessful. Two days later, the 19th Brigade captured the village of Nasej and moved forward along with the 17th Brigade to pursue Syrian units near Knaker. However, when Major-General Peled observed over 100 Iraqi tanks heading towards his forces, he ordered the 19th and 17th Brigades to pull back and face the oncoming Iraqis. As the Iraqi force approached Israeli positions in the early morning, the 19th Brigade attacked and along with two other brigades, succeeded in destroying 80 Iraqi tanks. The 19th Brigade also took part in defeating an uncoordinated attack by the Jordanians and the Iraqis before the end of the war.
