17th Brigade
During the Yom Kippur War of 1973, the 17th was commanded by Colonel Ran Sarig and contained 40 to 50 tanks. The 17th Brigade was very successful against a Syrian force and ended up destroying almost 200 tanks. Following that success, Israeli forces were pursuing the remaining Syrian units when a force of over 100 Iraqi tanks appeared on the horizon. The Iraqi forces were slow and although they initially threatened the exposed flank of Israeli troops, the 17th Brigade maneuvered to engage the Iraqi tanks and destroy over 60 before the Iraqi's began to withdraw.
