IRI Negin / Khalije Fars - Loghman class

In an interview 03 April 2020 with Mehr news, Head of Iranian Defense Ministry's Marine Industries Organization Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari informed that the country will start construction of a 6,000-ton destroyer in the current Iranian calendar year 1399 (ending on March 20, 2021). "Iran Maritime Industries Organization is running a project on construction of heavy destroyers, which is a joint project between the body and ministry of defense," he said. "In the defense ministry we are working on the construction of a 6,000-ton destroyer in the long-run," he said, "Executive preparations of the project will commence this year. The destroyer will provide defense ministry with a longer presence in international waters and oceans with defense and passive defense capabilities, guaranteeing the strategical role of the defense ministry."

The Iranian Navy plans to build a new heavy destroyer weighing more than 5,000 tons, Tasnim reported on November 24, 2019, quoting Navy chief Hossein Khanzadi. Construction of the heavy destroyer has been put on the agenda under a project dubbed “Negin” (gemstone), the rear admiral said. The weight of the destroyer is expected to be between 5,000 and 7,000 tons, Khanzadi explained. He said the warship will be used in long-running naval missions without any limitation. According to Tasnim, the heaviest destroyers currently in service in the Navy are of the “Mowj-class” which weigh around 1,300 tons. In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast, maneuverable, long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against powerful short range attackers.

This new and previously un-attested project, with few details disclosed, may or may not be related to the previously announced Loghman training destroyer. Loghman is the name of the project, while the name of the ship is IRI Khalije Fars, which means Persian Gulf in Farsi.

Luqman or Luqman ( Arabic : Luqman al-Hakim, Luqman Ahli Hikmah) was a fabled figure of Arab paganism mentioned in the Qur'an in Surah Luqman [31]: 12-19 who is famous for his advice to his son. In his instructions to his son, he bequeathed to believe in the Almighty and not to give him associates [ie, no God but God], to pray, to encourage to do good, to keep from sin, to endure the vicissitudes of fate, not to be proud and boastful. Lukman also bequeathed to his son to be modest, even in walking and speaking, for “after all, the most unpleasant of voices is, of course, the voice of an ass”.

Ibn Kathir argued that Luqman's long name was Luqman bin Unaqa 'bin Sadun. While a number of scholars differed on the origin of Luqman. Ibn Abbas stated that Luqman was a carpenter from Habyi. Another history mentions that he was short and had a pointed nose from Nubah, and some think he came from Sudan. There are also those who argue that Luqman was a judge at the time of the prophet David. Lokman occurs in the West-Eastern Divan by Goethe. The Arabian legends about Lukman are much richer than the Koranic story and have little connection with them.

In 2012 an new ship concept was on display in Iran. From the posters near the model, it was believed this vessel (named Khalij Fars or Persian Gulf) is a training vessel for the IRIN. The vessel class is sometimes referred to as "Loghman class" but this has not been confirmed by official sources. The vessel was considerably larger than any other surface combatant Iran had built, with a helicopter deck and hangar. The vessel's role as a training vessel is strongly suggested by the appearance of the superstructure. The vessel also appears to be armed (as many training vessels are, in case of war). This model depicts a training vessel, but assuming the design is proven, possibly Iran would then build a combat-capable variant which would add to Iran's conventional naval forces in Sea of Oman (as opposed to the smaller vessels being built for the IRGCN for the Persian Gulf).

The navy commander said: "With the construction of the Khalije Fars, the Islamic Republic of Iran will be the only country in the region that has this type of vessel." Amir Admiral Habibullah Sariyev, Commander of the Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the visit on 18 September 2012 with Fars News Agency gave a detailed discussion of the performance, capabilities and future plans of the Navy, and said that since the construction of the newest vessel of the force this year. Referring to the ability of the force to design and build native warships and destroyers, Admiral Sari pointed to the construction of the demolition of Jamaran as the symbol of the country's scientific and industrial authority and said, "The destroyer was part of the wave project, which was followed by the demolition of Damavand last year. In the Caspian Sea, we will see that Shah Allah will see its annexation to the fleet in the near future. He stated that the Sahand destroyer was also operational in the year 93, adding: "This trend continues in the case of four, five, six, and ... wave projects, until the full supply of needs continues."

The Navy's commander also said about the "Loghman" project on the design and construction of the "Persian Gulf" designer, "The Persian Gulf" is an educational vehicle that is of great importance to us, since much of the training is in addition to The theoretical aspect is practical and the student must go to the open water for several days to sail for training, and to be trained on stage. The Persian Gulf shipbuilding project was presented to the commander of the Supreme Leader of the Supreme All-Power Commander in the ceremony of graduation ceremony at Imam Khomeini University in the past year. He also confirmed it. He stated that the conceptual design work of the ship is ongoing, he said: "Allah will continue to work on the construction of this vessel this year."

By late 2017 the naval force of Iran was nearing completion of the design and manufacture of the frigate of the Persian Gulf, the largest military and training naval unit in Iran and the West Asia region. Iranian industry went through different stages over the temporal periods; in the mid-1990s was the leader of the Islamic Revolution inspects an exhibition of the achievements of the naval force of the Iranian army, and gave an order of the need Frigates industry capable of carrying helicopters and launch The rockets.

Following Khamenei's directives, the Iranian Navy entered a wide range of projects under the name of "Mowj" ["Wave"] projects for the manufacture of these frigates in cooperation with the country's defense industries. Another strategic plan endorsed by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution had an important impact on changing the nature of the Iranian Navy. This strategic plan has transformed the naval force of the Iranian Army from a mere coastal power into a force that has the potential to be present in international waters. It was on this basis that the destroyer Jamaran, the first of the effects and crops of this plan, was produced and appended to the Iranian Navy's South Fleet in 2009. The Jamaran destroyer industry has created a new hope for the transformation of the Iranian naval force into a force located in international waters. Demavand destroyer and speed up the process of finishing the Sina frigate industry.

In order to obtain a strategic naval force, it is essential that the leaders of the Iranian naval units be present in regional missions in order to gain the necessary practical expertise. On the other hand, Iran did not have the necessary spare parts and equipment to enable it to be present because of the embargo on arms purchases and imports. Accordingly, the Navy has begun a massive military operation to create a military and training frigate capable of sailing in international waters, as well as the ability to carry a considerable number of maritime trainees.

The stages of the military training frigate "Persian Gulf" went through many stages, the first of which was in 2012 when the commander of the Islamic Revolution visited an exhibition of the naval achievements of the army at the University of Marine Sciences in the city of Nushar. The commander of the Iranian army at the time Admiral Habibullah Sayari briefed him on the "Persian Gulf" to get this project approval of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and enters into force. According to Admiral Sayari, the manufacture of this frigate will make Iran the only country to have such a frigate in the West Asia region.

The British "Jane's Defense Weekly" reported on 29 November 2017 that the Navy of the Republic of Iran displayed the model of the Khalije Fars ["Persian Gulf"] training ship under construction. It is said that the ship has a displacement of 6,500 tons and a top speed of 25 knots. The ship started in 2012 and has not yet been completed. Earlier, Iran has repeatedly declared that the ship is an advanced destroyer and will become "the largest warship in West Asia" after completion. Observer network military commentators believe that although the "Persian Gulf" eventually became a training ship, it can at least be called a path-finding project for Iran’s self-built large ships. If one day Iran can obtain the radar, Weapons and other related systems may be able to build a real destroyer worthy of the name. According to reports, Iranian media reported that the "Persian Gulf" training ship is 135 meters long, 16 meters wide, has a displacement of 6,500 tons, a maximum speed of 25 knots, a range of 8,000 nautical miles, and can train 230 students at the same time.

By 2014 the Persian Gulf training ship has been conceptually designed and engineered. This ship is the largest native ship in Iran. According to Mashreq, it was in the mid-1970s that the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, during a visit to the Naval Achievements Exhibition, ordered the construction of vessels capable of carrying helicopters and firing missiles, and then building such vessels as a wave project on the force's agenda. The navy was the country's army and defense industry.

However, after the explanation of the new policy of the Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Commander-in-Chief of the Mini Forces on the strategic attitude towards this force in July 1988, in order to implement this new strategy, which requires Najaf to become a Coast Guard was preparing for a navy capable of being in open waters and internationally.

According to the Holy Defense News Agency, in order to become a strategic force, the Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran needs to use new equipment that will be able to be provided only by relying on its internal capabilities by imposing comprehensive military sanctions. The sweet fruit of relying on internal power was previously seen in the project to build a wave destroyer, the first example of which was named Jamaran, Siam Bahman in 1988 was officially operational in the presence of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution and will soon enter its fifth year of service. While several other examples of Jamaran category and a aircraft named Sahand in higher category are being built.

One of the needs of the Navy as an equipment-oriented force is to have a training-combat ship that is required to complete the training of various officers serving on naval vessels. Until now, some naval support ships have been used for training missions, but due to their lack of design for the training role, there is a need for a ship with the mentioned capability. In addition, these ships lacked various missile systems, including surface-to-air, surface-to-surface and torpedo, and only covered some training. In fact, their only missile weapon is a number of surface-to-air missiles.

Also in terms of admission capacity and range, only the Khark large ship has so far been deployed for extra-regional training missions, while the strategic navy requires the presence of young officers in such areas. However, due to the sanctions of our armed forces, today it is almost impossible to receive large combat and training vessels from other countries.

Accordingly, the Jamaran destroyer, the first product of the Wave project, was put into operation in March 1988, in the presence of the Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Fleet of Najaf, promising to start a new process in building the equipment needed by the navy to become a strategic navy. After that, with the production of Damavand destroyer and also the construction of Sinai class submarines, this process accelerated.

For a strategic navy, however, the presence of young officers on missions, especially in trans-regional missions, is essential to gaining operational experience. The navy could not buy such vessels from abroad. Accordingly, naval specialists began building a warship and training ship capable of sailing in open waters, as well as carrying a significant number of troops for training.

But in the middle of the 1370s and with the order and emphasis of the Supreme Leader, the work of studying, designing and building a multi-purpose warship capable of carrying helicopters began, which led to the construction of the Jamaran destroyer (protective ship) in the form of a wave project. A few years after the study and design of this project began, similar activities for the construction of battleships known as the Sinai category began in the country, which is currently under construction in the north and south of the country, and several of them have been put into service.

On the other hand, the experience of building large civilian vessels in the past few years with the design and construction of two 185-meter ocean-going cargo ships and more than 37,000 tons "Iran-Arak" and giant 250-meter tankers and 113,000 tons of "Aframax" in The country has emerged as another base for the rapid design and construction of the Persian Gulf operational-training ship.

Therefore, although the design and construction of a ship the size of the Persian Gulf is a move in much higher ranks than the Jamaran ship, but by combining the capabilities and experience of designing and building several warships and existing experiences of building large ships in the country's maritime industry The worthy results of this great effort are now conceivable.

According to the commander of the navy, the design of this large ship has been completed and the construction process has begun. The ship appears to be capable of accepting several hundred students with at least 30 to 40 teaching crews and about 180 main crew members. According to naval commanders, the total length of the ship will be more than twice that of Jamaran, which is about 200 meters, and its weight will be about five times that of Jamaran, which is about 6,000 to 7,000 tons.

The news of the construction of this new vessel, which was named Persian Gulf, was first published in September 1991, during the visit of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy to the exhibition of the achievements of the Navy at Nowshahr University of Marine Sciences. According to Admiral Sayari, the then Commander of the Navy, during the visit, the plan to build a training ship in the Persian Gulf was presented to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and was approved by him. According to Admiral Sayari, with the construction of this ship, Iran would become the only owner of such a vessel in the West Asian region.

The Persian Gulf took another step closer to construction in February 2014, with the presence of Diadar Hossein Khanzadi, Commander of the Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 9 new achievements of the Navy were unveiled, which were designed by the specialists of this interior.

One of the most important achievements was the conceptual design and engineering of the Persian Gulf training ship, which is the largest training ship in West Asia. This ship with a length of 135 meters and a width of 16 meters has a variety of propulsion, guidance and navigation systems, advanced radars and up-to-date weapons. In addition, the Persian Gulf training ship is designed to be able to defend itself in combat situations in such a way that during the training mission, it has the ability to train 230 students and students of military and civilian marine science schools simultaneously.

Before the Persian Gulf ship, the Jamaran and Damavand shipwrecks were the largest domestically built vessels, and with the unveiling of the Persian Gulf ship, this vessel will be the largest Iranian ship. Now, with this move, the Navy is one step closer to building the largest combat and training vessel in Iran and the West Asian region, and this move promises to build more modern vessels in the Navy for a more powerful presence in world waters.

According to Mashreq, the type of thrust of this ship will be a combined system of gas turbine and diesel engine with several generators to supply electricity, and it is possible that the thrust angle change system will be used for its two main axes (shafts). The two rudders behind the propellers of each axle are also responsible for changing the direction of the ship. It seems that the Persian Gulf ship is the first warship made in Iran that is equipped with gas turbine propellants. This type of propulsion compared to diesel engines can provide more acceleration for the ship and accelerate it in a shorter time. Due to the country's sanctions, the gas turbines used in this ship must be domestically made, which is a great development for the country's industry.

According to the published images, two gas turbines with a power of 15 to 18 MW each, two diesel engines with a power of 2 to 4 MW each and 4 to 6 generators of 1 MW will be used in this ship, which will use it quickly. Maximum 20 to 25 knots equivalent to 37 to 46. They reach 3 kilometers per hour. According to the operational range of ships carrying the Persian Gulf, the range of this large ship can be estimated at at least 5,000 nautical miles, equivalent to more than 9,200 kilometers.

The Persian Gulf combat-training ship has the ability to accept the helicopter on its special deck at the heel of the ship and has a special hangar (hangar) for the helicopter, which provides the possibility of safe transportation and protection of the helicopter in any conditions. The weapons currently intended for the Persian Gulf ship include a 76 mm Fajr 27 single barrel cannon with a rate of 120 rounds per minute and an effective range of 7 km, a 40 mm single barrel cannon 40 with a range of 4 km and a range of 300 rounds per minute and a number of 20 mm single barrel cannon and 12 rounds. It is 7 mm.

According to the existing systems in Darfash and Damavand ships, which are products of our country's defense industry, the large Persian Gulf ship will also use electro-optical systems to track targets, especially in conditions of electronic warfare. These systems typically include a day-vision camera, a thermal camera for night-vision, a laser rangefinder, and the ability to automatically detect and engage defined targets.

In addition to long-range surface radars, the ship uses the same radar as the recently unveiled Asr Fuzzy Array Radar. The range of Asr radar is at least 200 km for purposes with a radar cross section of 4 square meters and has the ability to track 1000 targets in three dimensions.

Other weapons of the Persian Gulf operational-training ship include surface-to-surface missiles and light cruise missiles with a range of 120 km and advanced capable missiles with a range of more than 220 km, standard surface-to-air missiles / altars, torpedoes and sonar to detect, track and destroy subsurface targets. Is. Therefore, in terms of quality and quantity of missile systems, the large Persian Gulf ship will be at a comparable level to ships such as Jamaran and Sahand.

According to the published images, the Persian Gulf ship will be one of the first warships in our country that will be equipped with a point defense system. A point defense area for ships is typically defined as less than 10 miles (16 km). Due to the fact that this distance is covered by fast cruise attack systems in less than 16 seconds, only fast weapons with a high probability of being hit in the first shot will be able to counter them.

Typically for point defense from low to medium caliber cannons with a very high firing range (gatling) with a very high firing rate of about 4,000 to 6,000 rounds per minute (66 to 100 rounds per second) with a range of 2 to 3. They use 5 km, which are also equipped with independent radar and electro-optical systems to track targets. The main applications of these weapons are combat with fast anti-ship cruise missiles and highly maneuverable air targets. Some large warships also use fast and agile short-range missile systems such as the Tor-M-1, which is a vertical launch missile with a speed of nearly 3 times the speed of sound, for point defense.

According to Mashreq, although the type of point defense system for the Persian Gulf ship is not known, but as a rule, a type of cannon with a high arrow rate will be its main element. Also, by the time the ship enters service, which is estimated to be around 1396 or 1397, improved types of evening radar, longer-range anti-ship cruise missiles, as well as surface-to-air missiles such as Sayad-2 may be added to its list of weapons. In particular, missiles such as Sayad-2, which have a longer range and their fire control system allows them to engage multiple targets, will be more useful for increasing the safe area for the valuable Persian Gulf ship.

According to the design principle of the Persian Gulf warship and training ship to carry out the mission in open waters, this ship will be built with the latest technologies of the country's maritime industry for long-term resistance and safe navigation in trans-regional waters such as the Pacific Ocean; A ship whose construction has raised the level of our country's industry in the world and by entering the service of our country's strategic navy, Iran after Russia and China and above countries such as Japan, South Korea, India and Turkey as one of the giants.

On 29 November 2017 Commander of the Iranian Navy, Admiral Hassan Khanzadi, sponsored the unveiling of nine new naval forces in the Iranian army that were fully implemented and planned internally. One of these achievements was the engineering design of the Persian Gulf frigate. The frigate is about 135 meters long and 16 meters wide and equipped with various command systems, navigation, guidance, sophisticated radars and modern weapons owned by the Iranian navy.

In addition to these advantages, the frigate of the Persian Gulf enjoys the possibility of self-defense in war conditions while carrying out its training tasks. It can also perform the training of 230 students from military and non-military naval science colleges simultaneously. Before the frigate of the Persian Gulf, the destroyer Jamaran and Damawand were the largest frigates that had been manufactured internally. The frigate became the largest Iranian naval vessel after it was unveiled.

As Iran marked its Navy Day on Friday 27 November 2020, the country had in recent years sought to bolster its naval capabilities in a bid to project power far beyond its shores, while sanctions have spurred Iran’s domestic defence production. As for companies in the production of defense equipment,Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, Commander of the Navy, said: "The Iranian Navy does not need foreign equipment." According to Iran Press News Agency, Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, Commander of the Navy, in an exclusive interview with Iran Press News Agency, on the 7th of Azar, Navy Day, stated that all military vessels will be built inside: Destroyer is possible in less than two years, which was 13 years ago.

Referring to the capacities and potentials of the country's defense industry thinkers, the commander of the navy said: "The ability to build torpedo submarines, mines and launch missiles from under the sea is 100% indigenous." Admiral Khanzadi called the Dena destroyer one of the national honors and added: "Technologies in the field of electronics and electromagnetic space have also advanced a lot, all of which are offered in Iranian destroyers at their highest level."

The Commander of the Navy continued by stating that more than ninety percent of Iran's basic goods are exported by sea, said: Maritime security is very important for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Referring to the first joint naval exercise between Iran, Russia and China last year, Admiral Khanzadi stated: "Iran has similar approaches in the field of security with the Chinese and Russian navies, and for these countries, the maritime areas, especially the Indian Ocean, are important."

The commander of the navy added: "The defense cooperation between Iran, Russia and China at sea, especially in areas that are of great strategic and geoeconomic value, is also significant and makes it clear to others that there is no room for monopoly and monotheism." The Dena destroyer is another national honor and is one of the products that has been produced for many years in the destroyers that started their work under the "Wave" project in the Navy and are being followed today in the Ministry of Defense. Some of them are pursued by the Navy because there is very good construction capacity in the Navy.

Two years ago, Iran witnessed the annexation of the destroyer "Sahand" of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and then "Fateh", and now "Dena" is joining, which is one of the "Moj" destroyer series. As generations go forward and are repeated, no matter how much technological progress has advanced in the Islamic Republic of Iran, new technology has been used in these new destroyers. For example, in the field of drift, all the techniques and capacities used are indigenous, and in the collection of the Ministry of Defense, and what Iran achieved in the field of drift, all of it has been updated on this vessel, which is new work. The same is true in the field of weapons, and Iran moved forward in the defense industry.
