Sayyad-2 / 15th Khordad
The Iranian Defence Ministry presented its new domestically-designed air defence system Khordad 15 capable of shooting down six targets at the same time, the Tasnim news agency reported 09 June 2019, citing Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami. The new air defence system, equipped with phased array radar and independent launchers, can detect both warplanes and intruding drones within a range of 150 kilometres (93 miles) and track them at a range of 120 kilometers, according to the Tasnim news agency.
Sayyad-2 was just the name of the missile, Talsh-2 was the name of the project and '15th khordad' is the name of this final system. 15th Khordad is a completely different system from Talash-2, Talash could not fully operate Sayyad 3 it was to big and heavy for it they could only carry 2 of them the the radar in Talash system had a range of ~120 km it was not enough powerful for Sayyad 3 Navid is a different radar more powerful with its 150 km range.
The Iranian defence minister also stated that the Khordad 15 system paired with Sayyad-3 long-range missiles, was capable of detecting targets within a range of 85 kilometres and hitting them at a range of 45 kilometres. The new air defence system can spot six targets simultaneously and due to its high-level mobility the military can prepare to open fire in less than 5 minutes, the minister noted.
Air defence forces of the Iranian Army received new 15th Khordad SAM system. This is further development of Talash systems with new target radar and already known Sayyad-3 missiles with 120 km range. With the new radar each complex can simultaneously fire at 6 targets. This system has a phased array radar and uses Sayyad-2 and Sayyad-3 missiles, can track and engage with up to 6 targets simultaneously. The 15th Khordad is a tactical system, requires minimum number of crews and consist of a minimum of two vesicles, one vehicle for for radar (discovery and engagement) and C&C system, and one vehicle for missile launcher, preparation time is less than 5 minutes. The defense minister described it as very lethal against targets in up to 27km altitude and in range of 7km to 75km.
Sayyad-3 is an indigenous long-range air defense missile designed to hit high-altitude targets. The '15th of Khordad' can also intercept stealth targets within a range of 85km, and destroy them in a 45km range. Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces mostly self-sufficient in the arms sphere. Iran has also conducted major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art army equipment.
The 15th of Khordad 1342 (5 June1963), was the start of the Islamic Revolution of the Iranian people. Two days before this day on 13 Khordad 1342 (June 1963), Imam Khomeini delivered his historical speech at the Fayziyeh School which marked the start of the uprising. A major part of the Imam's speech was about the harms of the Pahlavi monarchy. The Crowd gathered in this school was attacked by the Shah’s agents and some were martyred in a tragic way. At the dawn of the 15th Khordad, hundreds of commandos, dispatched fromTehran, laid siege to the Imam's house and arrested him while he was saying his overnight pray. They took him toTehran and transferred him to theQasr Prison.
