Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat State, is located some 25 kilometers north of Ahmadabad. The city is perhaps the best planned State capital in India. With its well laid-out wide roads lined by flowering trees, functional architecture and vast open spaces interspersed with parks and gardens, Gandhinagar is a planner's dream come true. Dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and named after him, the capital project was launched in 1960.
