Duke of Cambridge (Prince William)
The Duke of Cambridge (Prince William) is the second in line to the throne and the elder son of The Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales. His Royal Highness is married to The Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine, with whom he has two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The family's official residence is Kensington Palace.
The Duke of Cambridge works as an Air Ambulance Pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, in addition to undertaking a number of charitable activities and projects and carrying out public duties in support of The Queen. In addition to being a mother to her two small children, The Duchess carries out Royal duties in support of The Queen through engagements at home and overseas, alongside a portfolio of charitable work and patronages.
The charitable efforts of The Duke and Duchess are driven by a desire to help make a difference in some key areas, where they feel their support can help. The Duke of Cambridge has drawn attention to a wide range of important topics over recent years, in particular conservation, the armed forces, and young people, both through his programme of official engagements and by supporting organisations as their Royal Patron. The Duchess has drawn attention to the importance of supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children, the impact of addiction on children and families, and the necessary measures to support children suffering from family breakdown. She does this through supporting a number of organisations as their Royal Patron, lending her support to projects, and though her programme of official engagements. The Duke and Duchess are also able to personally intervene in areas where they can bring their own expertise to bear, by directing their charity, The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
Their Royal Highnesses carry out official overseas tours and domestic duties in support of The Queen, and regularly attend events such as Garden Parties, Trooping the Colour, Remembrance Sunday, and take an active role in State Visits. Together with The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Princess Royal, The Duke hosts investitures at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle throughout the year. At these ceremonies, The Duke presents medals to those who have been awarded honours in the New Year’s Honours List or The Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
