Strategic Significance: If all potential sales materialize, the Type 212CD could become a standardized NATO conventional submarine platform with 27+ boats across 5 NATO navies (Germany, Norway, Canada, Poland, Greece), creating unprecedented interoperability, shared logistics, common training, and economies of scale in production and maintenance.

Production Capacity

ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems Production:
  • Primary Facility: Kiel, Germany (new €250M advanced manufacturing hall completed 2021)
  • Current Order Book: 23 submarines including 8 material packages (as of 2024)
  • Type 212CD Capacity: Increased production capacity with advanced automation and digital integration
  • Delivery Rate: Approximately 1-2 submarines per year once full production established
  • Export Production: TKMS has experience with technology transfer and local production partnerships
