RV MTA Oruç Reis Seismic Research Ship
Oruç Reis Seismic Research Ship was delivered to General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration on 23 June 2017 and She is successfully on duty to carry out all kinds of geological, geophysical, hydrographic and oceanographic researches, especially the continental shelf and natural resource searches. Oruç Reis was an Ottoman seaman of Albanian origin, who became bey (governor) of Algiers, beylerbey (chief governor) of the West Mediterranean, and admiral of the Ottoman Empire. He became known as Baba Oruç or Baba Aruj (Father Oruç). Folk etymology in Europe transformed that name into Barbarossa (which means Redbeard}. Oruç Reis is the name of a number of Turkish vessels: RV MTA Oruç Reis, a research vessel; TCG Oruç Reis, a former submarine of the Turkish Navy (ex-HMS P611); TCG Oruçreis (F-245), Barbaros-class frigate of the Turkish Navy; and TCG Oruçreis (S-337), decommissioned Oruç Reis-class submarine of the Turkish Navy (ex-USS Pomfret (SS-391)).
The ship is one of the 5-6 research ships in the world, fully equipped and multi-purpose, and it is possible to conduct 2 and 3 dimensional seismic, gravity and magnetically geophysical surveys. The ship can perform 3-dimensional seismic operations up to 8 thousand meters deep and two-dimensional seismic operations up to 15 thousand meters deep. It operates in areas such as platforms, submarine cable and pipelines, sea selection and climate change. Oruç Reis research vessel's staff capacity is 55. 24 of them are seamen and 31 are administrators and researchers.
The ship, which started operation on August 15, 2017 and has 90 percent of local design, workmanship and integration, can also be seen from Antalya's world-famous Konyaalti Beach. It is possible to conduct 2 and 3 dimensional seismic, gravity and magnetically geophysical surveys. The ship can perform 3-dimensional seismic operations up to 8 thousand meters deep and two-dimensional seismic operations up to 15 thousand meters deep.
During the seismic operations, Oruç Reis' fields of activity, which can collect other geophysical data (gravity and magnetic) at the same time, performs the exploration of oil, natural gas and mining potential in the sea. operates in areas such as platforms, submarine cable and pipelines, sea selection and climate change.
The domestic construction business-grade remote control underwater vehicle (ROV) with ship, seabed mapping systems, measurement and sampling systems has sampling equipment and geology, oceanography laboratories that can take core samples up to 18 meters in length from the sea floor.
SNR-SEISMIC is designed to perform 2D/3D seismic researches as well as geophysical, geological, geotechnical, bathymetric, hydrographic, oceanographic and hydroacoustic researches and to realize the research projects of the other disciplines related to earthquakes, general geology, practical geology and environment geology and to do sampling and data collecting about the subject research areas. She has a helicopter platform. She is fitted with 4x4 streamer systems and hull/system infrastructure is ready for 8x8. She is equipped with 1 (one) Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) which can do oceanographic sampling and measuring, diesel electric propulsion system, Class I Dynamic Positioning System, 4 x 2650 kW generators, 2 x 3700 kW azipull thrusters with nozzles and 1 x 1000 kW bow thruster.
