SS PO 2000
The Portuguese Navy's SS PO 2000 acquisition program will yield three diesel-electric conventional submarines equipped with Air Independent Propulsion (AIP). The SS PO 2000 submarines will replace the Albacora class. The new submarines will serve in a number of capacities including protection and bracketing of naval and amphibious joint forces; monitoring, identifying and gathering intelligence in hostile zones; interdiction of terrorist- and drug-related shipping.
