Patria 6X6

Patria launched at Eurosatory 11 June 2018 a new vehicle - Patria 6x6, which brings the basic principles behind its predecessor into the present day, with its multifunctional transport capacity and modularity that adapts to the customers needs. Patria 6x6 is built on the heritage of Patria XA-series 6x6 Pasi vehicles as well as on the success of Patria AMV. Patria XA-series was introduced to the markets in 1980s and it soon became an iconic part of the various peacekeeping and crises management missions not forgetting its original basic duty transporting soldiers on the battlefield - in a simple & robust vehicle providing the needed protection & mobility.

Patria 6x6 is modular, high-performance but at the same time simple, robust and affordable to provide this tactical capability in larger fleet quantities. In modern warfare the need for large tactical troop transportation is still existing. Patria 6x6 vehicle is built on the heritage of legendary Patria XA series as well as on the success of Patria AMV 8x8 that have become an iconic part of the various peacekeeping and crises management missions and transporting soldiers on the battlefield. Patria 6x6 is modular, high-performance but at the same time simple, robust and affordable to provide this tactical capability in larger fleet quantities. It provides modern protection and extreme mobility. Patria 6x6 is suited for any combat support roles and therefore Patria presented Patria 6x6 with Patria Nemo turret at the DSEI London 2019.

The chassis structure is based on the same components as the AMV, but with one less axle. The vehicle is driven by all three axles and steered from the front two, or all three, depending on its equipage. Optional equipage can be added to bring the 6X6 closer to the AMV. For example, various ballistic and mine protection levels, weapon systems, self-protection systems and other interior equipment are available.

Patria 6X6 can be equipped with a variety of weapon systems and, if required, the Patria Nemo 120mm mortar system. The 6X6 has a maximum load-bearing capacity of 8.5 tonnes. The protection of the armoured 6X6 reaches STANAG level 4, which means protection against even heavy machine gun fire. Due to the 6x6s good load carrying capacity, it has better protection than previous Pasi APCs. Its mine protection is top-notch, even at the basic level, but up to 10 kilos of mine protection can be achieved.

Boarding and leaving the 6X6 is easy. In addition to the crew of 2-3 persons, the vehicle has seats for ten combat troops, depending on its purpose and layout. The driver can easily adapt to the controls in the 6X6s truck-like cab. The vehicle is designed as a simple and cost-effective truck-like solution. In terms of durability, it will continue along the trail pioneered by its predecessor, the Pasi. The 6X6 is also a unified concept in terms of its manufacturing technology. If necessary, the final assembly and equipage can be completed by a partner in the destination country. The 6X6 meets NATO standards and is suited to e.g. peacekeeping missions anywhere in the world. The vehicles life cycle support is an integral part of the Patria 6X6.

High payload capability ensures that with the protection level STANAG level 4 (optional) there is enough payload for various vehicle variants and equipment. This High payload capability ensures that with the protection level STANAG level 4 available to the vehicle. Patria 6x6s modular design allows a wide variety of specific configurations for diverse missions. High level of protection, unique mobility and the latest technology bring Patria 6x6 to deliver state-of-the-art AMV capabilities to face the highest demands.

Robust and fully independent suspension, which is similar to Patria AMVXP, together with high performance engine ensures unforeseen mobility and crew comfort in the 6x6 category. Patria 6x6 is order carry up to 10 dismounts plus a crew of two, driver and commander, in the front cabin, or 8-9 dismounts and a crew of three, driver, commander and gunner, all their equipment being hosted inside the protected hull, equipment being based on a 72-hours mission requirement. The vehicle has mobility optimized continuous all-wheel drive and steering by front two axles. Amphibious capability for water crossing and amphibious landing operations is available as an option.

Patria 6x6, together with high performance engine ensures unforeseen mobility and crew comfort in the 6x6 category. Originally Patria 6x6 is designed for troop transport, which allowed Patria to work on a dedicated target that has based on the use of the vehicle. This has allowed to provide a high reliability and affordable armored wheeled vehicle. The vehicle is cost effective added with low through-life costs, this together with truck-like user interface makes vehicle simple to operate, maintain and repair. Of course, local manufacturing concept is possible also for Patria 6x6. The 6X6 is also a unified concept in terms of its manufacturing technology. If necessary, the final assembly and equipage can be completed by a partner in the destination country.

Finland and Latvia agreed 29 January 2020 on a joint development programme for sustained army mobility enhancement to which Patria is to deliver a 6x6 vehicle chassis platform. This joint program aims at development of a common armoured wheeled vehicle system. The programme is also open for other countries by mutual consent of Finland and Latvia. In case the development will lead to actual vehicle system procurements in the future, the common system will enhance mobility, cost-efficiency, interoperability and security of supply of the armies in both countries.

This is an important opening for us, and we hope to see this new vehicle version in production as part of this program. Patria 6x6 vehicle is our top-notch product combining excellent terrain mobility and ease of use. Long life-span and easy maintenance make it very cost-efficient. It adapts into several missions. Naturally, it would be great if there were also other countries joining forces with Finland and Latvia, says Jussi Jrvinen, president of Patrias Land business unit.
