NRP Berrio
The current N.R.P. Berrio was acquired from the United Kingdom, where the ship had served in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) under the name "BLUE ROVER". Construction started at Swan Hunter in Hebburnon-Tyne in January 18, 1969 with the settlement of the keel. The ship was launched 11 November of the same year, entering the service July 15, 1970. RFA Blue Rover was the target of several modernization activities, most recently in March 1991. Constant operational activity in the logistic support to ships of the Royal Navy, led to diversified operational commitments and enhance the Falklands conflict in 1982, in the South Atlantic, where the ship performed in theatres of operations of the South Georgia Islands and San Carlos. Was acquired and increased the effective Portuguese Navy vessels in March 31, 1993, aiming to replace the NRP Sao Gabriel, having been baptized with the name NRP Bérrio.
