Type T-47 Kersaint Escorteur d'Escadre

The E. E. DU CHAYLA is a Military Assistance Program ship which employs a MARK 116 MOD 0 launcher in a MARK 13 MOD 0 launching system. The Tartar Mk 1 missile, of American construction, equiped the four squadron escorts of type T-47: the "Dupetit-Thouars," the "Du Chayla," the "Bouvet" and the "Kersaint." The 1987 budget provided for partial financing for continuation of the construction of a large number of ships, including the antiaircraft corvettes Cassard and Jean Bart, the former having begun its sea trials at the end of 1986. The antisubmarine corvettes [CAA] La Motte-Picquet also began its sea trials in the spring of 1986; however, priority was being given to the Cassard because of the rapid aging of the missile-launching squadron escort ships Dupetit-Thouars and Du Chayla which the CAA replaced.
