Fassmer - MPV-120
The Fassmer company from Bern has grouped its naval expertise under the brand name "Fassmer Defense". Specialty vessels, boats and equipment components have been part of a differentiated product range at Fassmer for decades. Products destined for the "gray zone" are now unified under the new "Fassmer Defense" brand. The shipyard chief, Harald Fassmer, assumes that thanks to the classification as a key technology, marine shipbuilding could also bring suitable orders to Bern in the future. Furthermore, successful cooperation with international customers should continue to deepen, taking into account local production on site.
Under the roof, Fassmer can bring the activities together in the individual areas and offer complete solutions. Fassmer has been equipping domestic and foreign coastguards with multipurpose boats for years. More recently, the Federal Police put into service three special vessels 86 meters long. The basis is the offshore patrol vessel (OPV80) developed by Fassmer, which is used similarly in Chile and Colombia.
The design department has also developed the multipurpose vessel (MPV) for lengths between 70 and 120 meters. Fassmer has extensive knowledge of the construction of special vessels. Market analysis was used to determine what an MPV must do today so that it can still be used in a modern way 30 years from now. Clients evaluated the tasks of logistics, hospital, inspection trips, tender operation, training and other uses.
As a result, the development team concluded that the 120 meter long MPV would be optimal. These ships would offer maximum flexibility, but they are smaller than what has been used so far. Smaller Navy organizations would benefit from this. The regular crew of the MPV 120 is composed of 42 men and, if necessary, up to 240 men can be added. Fassmer defense MPV 120 for the sea battalion in size approx: 143 m long, 27 m wide, draft 7 m. Displacement 8000 tons.
Two helicopter flight decks and a hangar with capacity for two CH53K or NH90 helicopters are mandatory. The ship could be equipped for various missions. It has three vehicle lanes or a 750 square meter deck. A hospital could be established in a modular way. Fassmer sees great development potential for customer requests in this concept. However, there was no forecast of when the first MPV 120 will actually be built at Fassmer.
