The First Infantry Brigade [Jalaväebrigaad] is the main maneuver unit, which includes the majority of the military service personnel within the units. The Professional defense unit also includes a rapid response capability in the career Scouts Battalion Infantry. The unit is able to operate with NATO väeüksustega. It also includes theKalevi Infantry Battalion and the the Tagalapataljon [Combat Service Support Battalion]. Brigade-trained military units are trained in different training centers to complete training and be counted in the reserve units. The unit was first formed on 25 April 1917 at Tallinn with Estonian soldiers. The 1st Infantry Brigade was restored in February 2003 in Tallinn. The 1st Infantry Brigade moved to Paldiski 01.01.2006.

 | Scouts Battalion
Unlike other Estonian armed units, the Scouts Battalion are not conscripts - all staff consist of professional troops. 1st Battalion Scouts is a trained professional capable of independent combat operations. Tasks include serving as the unit of High readiness to participate in NATO, the EU or the UN-led international operations since 2005. It provides an Estonian internal rapid reaction company-size tactical group with the main objective being to foster the protection of strategic sites in Tallinn. The battalion supports BALTBAT's commitments.

 | Kalevi Infantry Battalion
Kalevi infantry battalion mission is participating in international military operations, members of the defence and of the preparation of the training departments and administration. If necessary, prepares the battalion also provided for reserves. Kalevi infantry battalion will have a key role in preparing the Estonian contingents for participation in international military operations. It is also a way for military service duties include infantry regular elements of preparation.

Tagala Battalion / Tagalapataljon
Tagalapataljoni main tasks include the preparation and composition of the wartime conscripts of the 1. Infantry Brigade. In peacetime, it supports 1. Infantry Brigade headquarters, Scoutspataljoni, Kalevi infantry battalion and other units. If necessary, assistance will be given to a State-of-the-art equipment. Service in the Tagalapataljonis offers challenges, in particular in view of the diversity of disciplines in the main areas in the medical, vehicle repairs, warehousing and supply. Tagalapataljon's high level professionals serving in the regular members of the defence forces and is confirmed by the fact that the unit's people are highly rated among military units.

 | According to the Government Regulation no. 172 of 01 January 2004, a separate unit was formed of the Artillery Group, the Pioneer Battalion, Anti-Aircraft Division and the Defense Logisitcs center. In July 2008, a training center for combat support units was formed around the North Kaitseringkonnaks Combat Training Center.

 | Viru Infantry Battalion
Viru Infantry Battalion conducts training exercises in two main directions. First, the infantry training coursealso includes all technical fields infantry (archers, orderlies, light mortar team members, etc..). Second, the anti-tank training course which gives a training medium - and long-range team members. In addition to the above disciplines are taught in academic centers and department drivers. The training cycle is divided into a rank in knowledge cycles with period of 8 months and younger drivers, commanders and knowledge cycles, with duration of 11 months.

 | Artillery Battalion
Suurtükiväepataljon
The artillery battalion consists batteries wich consist of groups, tasked with artillery support of units in battle. Peace-time military units operate artillery training. Teaching courses are given the first artillery conscripts. Then they are distributed to the different positions of the military service and given specific specialty training. Up to half of the conscripts are trained to operate the cannon crew. The remaining conscripts given training, mainly logistic, meteorological, management or intelligence systems. Talented soldiers and NCOs are trained for survey data. The last part of their compulsory military service essentially consists of field exercises with the military service of the Defence Forces operate or control in managing their wartime tasks.

 | Anti-Aircraft Battalion

 | Pioneer Battalion
Pioneeripataljon
Pioneer's first professional training course given to conscripts basic knowledge and skills to ensure the performance of individual tasks pioneer pioneer class. | Logistic Center
Logistic Centre is a key feature providing troops and logistical support to the authorities.  | Kuperjanov Infantry Battalion
Kuperjanov Infantry in the peace-time train and assembles units according to wartime requirements.
