Albacora

In 1964, the Portuguese Navy ordered 4 Daphne class submarines form France's Dubigeon-Normandie shipyards in Nantes. The deliveries comprised: the "Albacora" on 1 October 1967, the "Barracuda" on 4 May 1968, the "Cachalote" in 25 January 1969, and the "Dolphin" on 1 October of the same year. In 1975, the Cacholte was sold back to France and later sold Pakistan. The 4th Flotilla used the submarines for a diverse set of missions including patrol of Portuguese maritime space and participation in national joint exercises with NATO. After three decades of service, the submarines were retired in succession: the Albacora in 2000, the Barracuda in 2001 and the Dolphin in 2002.
