Haeuri class medium patrol vessel

By April 2020 the Coast Guard Command of the Republic of Korea was carrying out preparatory work for the transfer of the Ecuadorian Navy to two recently withdrawn 300-ton Haeuri class patrol vessels from the fleet. Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) built PC302 and PC303 boats, which ntered service in December 1990 and December 1991 and were withdrawn from service in October 2019 and January 2020, respectively.

Both boats were restored and painted in the colors of the Navy of Ecuador. Their transfer was scheduled for May-June 2020. They are expected to be used to ensure the safety and protection of fisheries in the Galapagos Islands. Ecuador was currently unable to properly protect its territorial waters from illegal fishing by foreign vessels.

The Coast Guard of the Republic of Korea operates four classes of heavy patrol boats (with a displacement of more than 1000 tons), three classes of medium (more than 250 tons) and three classes of light. The Coast Guard aviation division has 6 aircraft and 16 helicopters. The length of the Khaeuri class ship is 53.7 m, the width is 7.4 m, and the draft is 2.5 m. this project would play an important role in securing maritime safety and protecting rights and national interests in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
