Ri Myung Soo
Director of the Operations Bureau (General)
Ri Myung Soo succeeded Kim Myong Kook as the Director of the Operations Bureau at the end of 1996. He was promoted to Lieutenant General in 1992 and to Colonel in 1995, and served as the Head of the 5th Army Corps.
He became a General on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Worker's Party in October 2000. On the day of the celebration, he briefed Kim Jong-Il on the event while standing next to him in the military parade, and was seen accompanying Kim during his military visits.
