Hyon Chul Hae
Deputy Director of the Organization Department
General Political Bureau (General)
Hyon Chul Hae was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Organization Department in the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army, the military equivalent of the First Vice-Minister of the Organization and Guidance Department of the Korean Worker's Party. He started his career as a political officer, and has years of experience working at the General Political Bureau.
He graduated from the Mankyungdae Revolutionary School. While he was the Director General of the General Logistics Bureau in the mid-90s, Kim Jong Il took note of his role in reforming the military supplies and logistical distribution system and promoted him to a key post of Deputy Director of the General Political Bureau. Hyon is said to have played a key role in helping Kim Jong Il gain tight control over the military. Apparently, the defection of his nephew Hyon Sung Il in 1996 did not do much damage to his influence, which attests to the level of Kim Jong Il's trust.
He was named a member of the KWP Central Committee in 1993 and promoted to the rank of General in 1995.
