Ch'o-do Naval Base
The port of Ch'o-do is a support facility for naval patrol units guarding the sea approach to Namp'o and Pyongyang. Located on the east end of the island of the same name, it is an improved natural harbor, approx. 60 miles SW of P'yongyang. The harbor is roughly 1/2 mile long by 1/4 mile wide. Depths range from 3 to 12 feet and berths are located on the west side of a peninsula breakwater.
An open anchorage area to the north-northeast of the port facility has depths of 40-50 feet over a mud bottom. The most recent declassified intelligence reports estimate that alongside berthing is limited to approximately 70 feet of wharfage, sufficient for 1 fast attack craft.
