Military Agricultural Union (UAM) Unión Agropecuaria Militar (UAM)
The Rebel Army, after its settlement in certain territories, assumed the organization and development of food production for the troops as well as the Liberation Army. After the 1st January 1959, this practice was maintained with greater or lesser intensity, depending on the location of the units, the needs and possibilities of each place and the vocation of the leaders for the productive activity. The incentive was put into agriculture and livestock activity. Until the end of the 80s of the last century, due to the production volumes, this activity was only a complement to feed the troops.
After the collapse of the socialist camp, the country faced serious difficulties, which required the liberation of the economy, obligations regarding the FAR food. In these circumstances, on April 2, 1990, through the Directive No. 031 of the Chief of General Staff, the Military Agricultural Union was founded. Between 1991-1996 the production grew almost ten times. The demand for food for the troops was satisfied. This favored maintaining the fighting capacity of the FAR.
As of 1997, progress was made in the improvement of agricultural activity. The experiences obtained allow the creation of new companies and centers of production and development. In order to liberate the heads of the issues related to food production and to devote themselves mainly to defense preparation activities, taking into account the size of the productive structure, there was a change in the functional order. The Unión Agropecuaria Militar assumed the vertical direction of all the entities of the system, as a top organization of business management. It would have obligations and prerogatives regulated by Order 18/95 of the Chief of EMG. Another significant moment was the beginning of Business Improvement, which was joined by a group of companies that showed better results.
The activities of science and technological innovation have been aimed at replacing old technologies with more modern ones. Its objective is to achieve productive increases and respond to the growing technical requirements of hygiene and food processing, quality and environmental requirements and the growing demand for exportable items. Facilities have also been strengthened. The Agrofar Production and Development Center works systematically on joint research projects with interface entities (institutes, research centers, etc.) in the territories.
The UAM directs its management to constantly raise the quality of life of members of the FAR in the food order, to increase sales in currency and to provide a timely response to other specific punctual demands.
