Tengoen TD-THX (TD unmanned aerial vehicle)
TD-THX (TD unmanned aerial vehicle) is a large unmanned transport aircraft with a wingspan of 42 meters, a maximum takeoff weight of 45 tons, and a load capacity of 20 tons, which is being developed by Sichuan Shield Technology Co., Ltd. Tengoen is at work building an eight-engine drone with a wingspan of more than 137 feet to carry a payload of 20 tons payload up to 4,660 miles. That's akin to a medium-sized manned cargo plane. The carbon-fiber, double-bodied drone carries the payload module between the two fuselages (looking a bit like a robotic baby brother to the Scaled Composites Stratolaunch). This drone has several features that are very impressive. In addition to its dual-body design, which is the number of engines it uses, this drone actually uses an amazing 8 turbofan engines, which is more than the current world. The engine with the heaviest uploaded aircraft, the An-225, will have two more engines. However, the number of engines installed on this drone is not fixed. It is reported that this drone uses a modular wing-suspended engine nacelle. The number and model of engines that can be installed can be determined according to needs - two, four or six. A maximum of eight engines can be installed.
The payload of 20 tons is equivalent to the carrying capacity of a medium-sized manned or freight passenger aircraft. The twin-body cargo drone, which will use carbon fiber materials, carries a payload module between the two fuselages, and is currently expected to be operational in 2020. Of course, this flying capability is equivalent to the behemoth of a medium-sized passenger aircraft, and it can also be used for search and rescue, aerial refueling, long-term reconnaissance monitoring, and intelligence gathering. Because it carries a large load module, its mission capability can be flexibly changed by quickly replacing this module. Its huge payload can also make it an aerial tanker, refueling aircraft such as search and rescue helicopters, patrol fighters, cargo transporters and bombers.
The company's executives emphasized the civilian application prospects of related UAV systems, which can perform a variety of tasks such as space launch, police, exploration, fire protection, border patrol and emergency rescue. With the large-scale production of follow-up products of this series of drones, economies of scale can be achieved, thereby reducing prices.
