The shape of the Water Boom-5 aircraft is beautiful, and the slender body and hull ensure good longitudinal stability when the surface floats. The nose has a radome nose, and below it is the pilot's downward viewing transparent compartment. Above the nose is the cockpit, which houses multiple crews. Usually a two-person driving crew, both have a full control system. The body with a large aspect ratio has a larger cargo compartment with electronic equipment or other payload. The cockpit is not airtight but has high altitude oxygen supply equipment. Taking into account the long coastline of China and the use of coastal islands, the body adopts measures to prevent moisture, salt spray and mold. The main measure is that the steel parts on the machine are coated with epoxy zinc yellow primer and epoxy nitro enamel. The aluminum alloy is anodized and coated with an epoxy zinc yellow primer. To prevent bimetallic corrosion, the metal is coated with XM-10 glue.
The layout can avoid the wave wash caused by the important components when they are taken off and landing. The fuselage is a large aspect ratio all-metal semi-hard shell design with anti-wave ribs at the bottom to reduce the waves when the ribs take off and land. Through the above-mentioned careful design, the water bombing-5 can take off and land in the sea, rivers and lakes and reservoirs, and has the characteristics of ultra-low altitude, large voyage, all-weather, large-capacity short-range take-off and landing and good wave resistance. The water bombing-5 takes off at a water surface distance of about 500 meters, and the water landing distance is more than 800 meters. It can take off and land at a water depth of 2.5 meters, a length of 1500 meters and a width of 200 meters. In addition, the water bomber-5 can also land at the shore airport, but because the landing gear is short and the safety factor is not high, it is generally used for water take-off and landing, and then taxied ashore through the bank ramp. The aircraft can fly for 11 hours and 55 minutes or 4,900 kilometers.
The power of the SH-5 is set with four turboprop-5 turboprop engines with a rated power of 2059.4 kW and a maximum power of 2316.8 kW, driving four J19-G10 metal 4-bladed propellers. Taking into account the hot and humid weather in the south, the turboprop-5A engine can provide 315 hp thrust at 30 degrees with special measures. The J19-G10 metal propeller not only has an electric anti-icing device, but also has a feathering and anti-paddle function. The operating system is equipped with an autopilot and a three-axis composite hydraulic servo booster and a gas-liquid human sensing device, which can be converted from manual to manual operation at any time. In order to ensure that the aircraft can start the engine on its own at any time, a power supply system is available.
Onboard electronic equipment includes XS-5A beacon, BWL-7 automatic radio compass, 263 radio altimeter, 773 Doppler navigation radar, search bombing radar, heading system, inertial Doppler integrated navigator, altitude center meter, Terrain avoidance equipment, fire control computers, optical and laser bombing sights and anti-submarine special equipment. The anti-submarine device includes a variety of sonar buoys and a long rod-shaped magnetic detector at the tail. Some of the equipment was retrofitted for later improvements. A water rudder is mounted at the tail. Weapons can carry self-guided torpedoes, "Eagle"-8 air-to-ship missiles, aerial bombs, deep-water bombs and other anti-submarine weapons. In addition, the back of the fuselage is also equipped with a self-defending 23mm movable turret.
The weapons are hung under the wing pylon between the fuselage and the inside engine and between the inside and outside engines. According to unconfirmed news, the Water Boom-5 is equipped with the C-101 supersonic anti-ship missile. C-101 shows the first generation of ramjet low-altitude, supersonic anti-ship missiles of our military equipment. It was developed in May of 69, and the missile flight experiment was successful in 1985. After several improvements, it was finalized. The guidance adopts the method of automatic detection by the end active radar, so the carrier or the ship can turn off its own radar and disengage after launching. The missile weighs 1,847 kilograms and has a range of 45 kilometers. It uses a liquid ramjet engine and a rocket booster. NATO codename is CSSC-X-5.
C-101 missiles are commonly reported in the newspapers. Take the ship-borne type as an example. The process of engagement is: after the missile is launched, it will climb at a certain elevation angle, and the booster will accelerate the missile to 1.8 Mach within a few seconds. After this, the booster disengaged and ignited the liquid ramjet engine. The missile slid down to a height of 50 meters and then changed to a speed of Mach 2.0. At this time, the missile automatically opened according to the scheduled flight time of the ship's pilot before launch. The radar searched and locked the target. When flying to 3,000 meters from the target, it began to dive to a height of only 5 meters from the apex and hit the enemy ship near the waterline. The large warhead of the C-101, combined with the remaining fuel, coupled with its high-speed kinetic energy, is highly lethal to enemy ships. However, in the current public information, the C-101 only has the model of the shore ship and the model carried by the missile speedboat. There is no picture or text of the SH-5 carrying the C-101.
