The "New" airfield, located just south of the city of Nanchang, is probably a dual-use facility supporting both military and civil operations. In both the earliest imagery, as well as more recent imagery, it supports a fairly numerous inventory of small probable single engine general aviation / training aircraft. It has been encroached by the Hongdu Residental District to the west, and Qinali to the east. Nanchang was anciently known as Yuzhang and Hongdu. It is the capital city of Jiangxi Province and the core city of the Poyang Lake City Group. It is an important central city in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in China. As of 2018, the city has 6 districts and 3 counties with a total area of ??7402 square kilometers, a resident population of 5.5 million, an urban population of 4.1 million, an urbanization rate of 74.2%, and a resident population of 800,000. Nanchang is located in east China, Jiangxi Province, north central, Ganjiang, Fuhe River, Poyang Lake, south-western coast. It is Jiangxi's political, economic, cultural, scientific, educational and transportation center. In ancient times, Fujian and Guangdong family court, was known as the "head of the tail", "three rivers with five lakes", and the place of "controlling the brambles and leading the Ouyue". It is the only provincial capital city in China adjacent to the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the economic zone on the west side of the Straits. One of the important central cities in East China and one of the central cities in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Nanchang is a national historical and cultural city. Nanchang was the "Southern Capital" in 1927. After the founding of New China, factories in Nanchang built the first aircraft of New China, the first batch of coastal defense missiles, the first motorcycles, and tractors. It is an important manufacturing center in China and the birthplace of the aviation industry in New China.

Photographic Evaluation Report

As of 2000, high resolution imagery was available from three sources, including declassified CORONA imagery. Commercially available Russian 2-meter resolution KVR-1000 imagery is available via the SPIN-2 service on TerraServer. As of 01 May 2000 archival Space Imaging IKONOS 1-meter imagery available on the CARTERRAT Archive includes 9 scenes of the Nanchang area, acquired between 14 February 2000 and 04 April 2000. All of these scenes, however, have heavy cloud cover well in excess of the standard 20% threshold.
